I've been deciding lately on which intake I should get. The thing is that I had a K&N FIPK on my 2000 Grand Marquis and I was very satisfied with it. However, I hear that JLT is really good for our cars and provides the most power, etc. But one thing is that the JLT RAI and CAI intakes don't install with the strut tower in place (must remove it) and you have to relocate the smog pump for the JLT CAI. So, should I just stick with K&N and get the FIPK? About how much crank horsepower and torque will I pick up with the FIPK? I really want to keep my strut tower brace on. For those who have the K&N FIPK; are you satisifed with it? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. What about C&L or BBK or Volant?
I've got the K&N FIPK and have no issues with it. I picked up 30hp to the rear wheels according to MM&FF but mine is a blower car. K&N has been in the mustang scene for years and know what they are doing. My only complaint is I wish they had molded the gasket material around the engine heat shield. Making that 90 degree bend with straight material was the biggest PITA. Otherwise, it was a clean install with no glitches.

never, never, never put a open air element in your engine bay, esp with a supercharger, you are raising in air intake temp by about 100 degrees (not good)...use a good in the fender kit or just put a K/N in your stock box and remove the silencer. I have a BBK in the fender kit, it works well.

I have the JLT RAI with heat shield removed. JLT is awesome imo. If i data log the inlet temps while driving, it's actually not hot at all. At idle it starts going up a little but once you drive, it goes right back down.

I have the K&N FIPK, while I'm sure it works just fine, I didnt' notice ANY difference in performance (or sound even). Ever since seeing the JLT cold air on a friends ride, I've seriously regretted getting the K&N. The paint option alone makes it a better choice. Just my opinion...

If you don't have other Mods done to the car just put a better air filter in the stock airbox.
And I agree with 2oo5GT once the car is moving the IAT temps will be the same as a fender mount with an open air engine bay filter like the JLT RAI. With mine I flipped the supplied heat shield upside down to eliminate Fan Wash and better pull cold air from the fender hole! I also run 3 inch dryer duct from the open fog light holeup through the fender! http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/7317/svtcobra095.jpg http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/5655/svtcobra090.jpg

Funny, I was just noticing how close the CAI on the Shelby GT500KR and the 2010 Shelby GT500 look to my K&N FIPK. Those are both supercharged. I guess Shelby needs to plumb it out through the fenderwell to get it right?

Why do you guys think the factory spent thousands of dollars to design and engineer an in the fender kit on the car stock? Duh, they know what they are doing(usually)...

If I can find my heat shield, I'll have to try that out.

True, but they do it for more reasons that just for HP gains. The dyno never lies.

Yeah it works pretty good, I did a little test, I took the shield off and drove around in the Florida heat for a bit then pulled in my garage and popped the hood and felt the Filter where the shield would be covering and it was HOT!! Put the cover back on and tried it and the filter was definitely cooler to the touch!
