Howdy all, I'm replacing my mid-pipe on my 99 Cobar, I've already replaced from the Cats back, no big deal.
I messed a little with the mid-pipe and found those darn sensors are tough. I will eventually get this but thought if any one had a trick to this I'd love to hear it. How do you break the O2 sensors loose, hopefully with out breaking the sensor itself? I assme they have never been off, I will need to remove all four.
I go through WD40, liquid wrench, silicone spray, yada, yada, by the gallons working on the quads, something to do with my kids riding hapits, sand, rivers, and Illinois mud!
I didn't try, but they looked like rascals to get off.
I received my JLT CAI today, I ended up getting the same one you recomended; I did think about it at the time but I hope the thing will fit under my strut braces, they set right on top of the existing air intake.
C&L intake is one of maybe two intakes that will fit under your strut bar. Theyre not really that expensive either. You can just unclick the sensors from their module and remove the pipe with the sensors still screwed in once you remove the pipe and have an area to work with it shouldn't be too hard. Good Luck
I confirmed it last night, not enogh room, it will not fit.
Is it worth it to just go with a K&N bolt on? It just opens up the box and changes the filter. I don't want to waist my time and money on something that does not give results.
You say: "C&L intake is one of maybe two intakes that will fit under your strut bar. Theyre not really that expensive either."
Which one are you using? Any pictures?
like brutalmetal said just take off your strut brace. I've heard they don't improve that much. Thats one of the reasons they stop putting them on the 99's. Ive seen a 99 cobra hit really good numbers with a jlt intake. For the CNL intake is from their website cnlperformance and it is part number 708. it is a short ram though for 160 but they also sell CAI i just went with the short ram due to my car going to be intercooled.
The brace was on there when I bought the car so I figured I'd leave it. No reason other then that. I considered taking it off, do you guys know are they attached with blind nuts? I have a friend who is trying to talk me into doing the road-course racing, you run against your-self, it's all based on time, and the worst thing you can hit is a pylon, I figured it could be benificial for that type of activity. But, this is my first jump into hot-rodding so I'm learing as I go.
Well I've been doing some reading and research and the guys who run auto-cross, especially with a convertable (which mine is) they are saying they help allot in hard cornering.
Dam, I really wanted to use the JLT, it's a good price, and appears to yeld good reslults.
I'm now back to what will fit under the brace.
I took my brace off, wouldn't fit with supercharger, noticed no difference in handling...for hard road course you'll need better springs/shocks anyways, not to mention subframe connectors which should be on any stang IMO...

I bought this car used and don't know much of the history, so far it runs VERY well, uses no oil, don't smoke (except the rear tires and yes I'm knocking on wood right now) and it already has a very professional looking under car subframe bracing system on it, pefectly bent and welded/bolted into place and fits like a glove, I thought it was factory until I saw a bone stock 99 convertable cobra. I'm learning as I go but someone put some work and money into this car, I wish I knew everthing they did. It corners like it's on rails and power slides very predictably, I can slide it around a corner like I'm riding one of my quads.
