Unhappy 98 cobra laggin horsepower...

Hey guys, i have a stock 98 cobra.....i feel a lag through out the rpms....
1. I cleaned the MAF (felt better)
2. I changed the fuel filter.(didn't notice difference)
3. I have the stock paper air filter(not dirty, just a little yellowish at tip)

also, i have put in the NGK iridium spark plugs......ANY SUGGESTIONS TO WHAT I SHOULD DO TO BRING THIS 4V TO PERFORME HOW IT SHOULD???????

Well I'm not sure what you expect but you have to remember the 96/97/98s have basically a Lincoln engine in them...they are not super torquey and need a host of bolt ons to bring them to life...my tuner's 03" mach 1 has more torque than my supercharged 96...you might consider 4:10 rear gears. That is why my "2nd" stang is getting a stroker 427...old school pushrods are generally better street engines.

MIGHT BE...I HAVE A FRIEND WITH A 03 MACH 1 WITH EXHAUST AND INTAKE ....AND HIS CAR PULLS LIKE CRAZY....(NOT TO MENTION HE HAS 20 INCH RIMS.) BUT I MIGHT BE EXPECTING TOO MUCH FROM A 98 COBRA......BUT ANOTHER THING THAT KEEPS ME GUESSING IS, I RACED A 89 5.0 T-TOP(W/ EXHAUST AND INTAKE)......I LAUNCHED ON HIM BUT THEN HE PAST ME LIKE NOTHING..I WAS LIKE WHAT?????? SO I DO THINK MY CAR IS NOT PERFORMING HOW IT SHOULD BE.

Dude, a 89 5.0 I had years ago with full exhaust and shifter could waste a corvette! You are going to need full exhaust, gears and then a supercharger, the 03 Mach was tuned for more torque at the trans and rear end, it also has the better heads than ours...at this point you might want to sell and buy a terminator...I would if I had it to do over...the later model dohc motors are much better than ours...hate to say it, but it's true...a good 5.0 will outrun you anyday if you are stock. My tuner wants to add modern heads, cams and forged short block to my cobra and then up the boost on the blower to 16 psi...hmm, I may need to drill for oil in my backyard.

5.0L's have a lot more low rpm torque that's why he pulled you off the line. The 4.6L 4V motor is a SLUG til about 3500 rpms.
The Mod motors have a TOTALLY different feel and powerband.
A stock 5.0L with bolt ons will choke for air at about 5400 while the 4V hasn't even reach peaked HP at that number!
