I have a 2001 Svt Cobra and want these mods done. Upgrade to 3:73 gears, new Flowmaster catback exhaust, and underdrive pullys. Any idea how much the installation would cost for each? I called a local shop and they were saying around 1,000 for the gear install. Is that about right or am I gettin giped? Any ideas on the rest? Thanks.
$1,000 is extortion for a gear install. the price will vary but figure around $350 maybe more depending on where you go for the gears. The Catback will cost you around $250-300 since the catback is more involved then a simple axleback install. UDP's are around $150ish. So all 3 put together shouldn't exceed $1,000 or you are getting a bad deal. Go around and get quotes for different shops, but also make sure they have a good strong reputation.
Also, make sure to follow the proper break in procedure for the gears for the first 500 miles. Don't romp on it or you will have gear whine.
The best thing for you to do, is call around to get the best price. Ask some of your friends, if they know a reputable performance shop. The gears should be no more then $350, and that includes the cost of the gears. A good shop can install the gears, in two hours tops with the rear still in the car. But call around, and do your research on the shops, Mike. SCT Tuner. Good Luck!!
Gear installs: just labor $175-$300, if 3 hundy I'd ask them to supply the gear oil and friction modifier.
If you were in Florida I'd have your Catback on in 30 minutes at my friends shop and I'd only charge $50, with a lift and air compressor a monkey could do it!!
Now the UD pulleys are a bit more involved and time consuming, I wouldn't be surprised if you got quoted $100-$125 for that!
And make sure you have a knowledgable person install the crank pulley. AND don't buy a piggyback one stick with Steeda!
Also if you plan on adding a supercharger down the road I wouldn't even bother with the UD's BUT if staying NA they are good for almost 10 rear wheel! Hey your in South Carolina you should check out Amazon, Rick does my Custom tunes!
Since your in Charleston, Drive to Sumter SC and go to Macon Moore performance, you can look them up too, just google maconmoore performance. I know Dave did charge $200 for a gear swap but gear oil or parts is extra. I would bring 3 bottles of RP oil and a basic install kit for him. They are some great guys there. You can have them install the other stuff too and won't charge you an arm and a leg. If you do go, tell them Travis said wassup.

Cool, sounds good man, I'll have to look them up. And yes, stock is 3:27s.
$200 is a fair price for a gear install, since their close check those guys out! I still have the stock 3.27's and all my friends constantly rank on me for it, haha!!
The spreader for the IRS differential is $500. So they are going to charge more cause they don't use it much. Doing gears on an IRS is different and more expensive than in a live axle rear end. Although I agree $1000 is high.

Yeah they were saying it'll take about 12 hours total to replace them. I was like what? I dont even know how to replace them but can probably figure it out in under 12 hours. Thats just ridiculous in my opinion, and they specialize in Mustangs, go figure. I'll probably drive up to Sumter or go to Amazon, thanks for the info guys.
I'm not real big on those UDPs...they make your alternator/ A/C run slow at idle which I feel shortens their life, the water pump turns slower and your car then runs hotter...not a good feeling...I'd just stay stock...trust me, I've had them and was never convinced the small hp gain was worth the side effects.
