Default 2004 Mach 460 Headunit in 2003 Mustang Cobra

I hope this is the correct forum for this. I did not see a audio forum on the site anywhere. If it is in the wrong place I am sorry.

I have an 03 Cobra and I would really like to get Sirius radio in it. I have Sirius in my F150 and love it.

I have asked this question before and got mixed answers so I am hoping it can be cleared up.

Will an 04 headunit that has Sirius integrated into it work with my car? If so what else do I need? I am sure I'll also need the Ford Sirius receiver if this will work.

Has anyone done this before? Does anyone know what parts and part #'s I'd need?

What brought this up again in a listing on eBay I say for a Mach headunit that states it works with 01-04.

The listing:
AM/FM CD Mach MP3 Ford Factory Radio 01-04 Mustang:eBay Motors (item 330234026769 end time Oct-27-09 09:32:14 PDT)

I appreciate any help I can get.

Is there a connector converter or is the guy that listed that headunit on eBay just wrong?

Does anyone have pictures of the back of an 03 and an 04 radio or maybe post the one you have so we can see the difference?

Audio & Alarms | Mustang Forums | AllFordMustangs.com is the area that you were looking for.

And it might be easier to get an external receiver that has its own headunit but it small enough to be out of the way. I ran one in my previous vehicle for about 1.5 years and loved it also

Timbo,

Not sure if you have resolved this yet, but maybe I can help. I just added XM to my cobra Mach 460 as well.

As far as I know, Satellite radio wasn't actually integrated into any factory head units in 03 or 04. The 04 head unit has a 'SAT' button, but I think it actually had to be wired into an external satrad unit that would be mounted under a seat or somewhere.

The CD player in my 03 Cobra does not work, so I bought an 04 head unit from a GT (with a working cd) on ebay, thinking it would be interchangeable, but it wasn't. The Cobra M460 has a square 20 pin connector and the 04 GT has a rectangle connector with maybe 24 pins in it. So I would say to make sure the connectors will work before buying a different model year's head unit.

Anyway, since I have it in my f150 as well, but an external unit (an XpressRc), my intention all along was to wire it into the head unit with a PIE unit, like I had on my F150. That way I only had to pay one subscription, and I could just move the unit from vehicle to vehicle.

This link has a good picture of the back of a head unit that matches my 03 mach 460 exactly. It should match yours as well. Maybe it will save you from having to pull yours out to look. http://www.tazcobra.com/460_mods.pdf

Also, here is a pic of my setup, if you are interested. http://www.allfordmustangs.com/photopost/showphoto.php/photo/115483/ppuser/99455

I used a bracket from Pro.fit international to mount the unit. The wires from the PIE unit are ugly (and HUGE!) I know, but the sound difference, compared to a fm transmitter, is worth it. Good luck!
