Default 2001 Mustang cobra switch to 2003/2004 cobra motor?

Hi,

Need some help, I currently have a 2001 cobra and want to add a supercharger. Problem is the non forged pistons and rods in my car. I know i could go ahead a do it but i will likely blow up and don't want to be so limited with the amount of boost i can run in my current set-up.

Is it a problem to put an 03/04 cobra motor in my car? Would I need to change my transmission, drive train or other things?I am very limited in the knowledge of doing something like this but want to know what my problems could be.

I would appreciate any and all advice on this matter.
I am looking at purchasing a long block 03/04 motor currently and i have a performance company that says it is not an issue to do this but they are trying to sell me stuff and i want to cover all my basis.

Don't do it, the expense involved would be big $$$!
The stock 99-01 Cobra bottom end can safely handle up to 450 HP with a proper tune and boost levels about 10 psi!

Point taken, could you elaborate on the expenses you think i will encounter?

I noticed you changed out your pistons was that expensive? I think my current motor it could handle it for awhile but not very long plus i don't want to spend the money i would have to spend on a blower and be limited to 400t 450 hp. I can get a 03/cobra long block for 5k. If I switch out the motor is that enough or do i need to change out the drivetrain also?
I noticed your in Tampa, who has done the work on your car?

I personally wouldn't want to use an Iron Block, your adding 80 lbs to the front end, your 01 is either a Teksid or WAP Aluminum depending on the production date, both can safely handle 1000HP. If your gonna spend $5K on a motor upgrade just rebuild yours with Forged Internals! I have $4K into mine from pulling to re-installing but I have machine shop friends that cut me good deals but about $5K will be the ballpark, but that includes all labor, if you buy a $5K motor your gonna have to pay somebody like a thousand bucks to put it in?
As far as I know the 03-04 Cobra motor will work with your drivetrain? someone else might confirm that, but if you were switching to a 6 speed the driveshaft and bellhousing is different though!

you guys are right...i have a buddy that owns a 2001 cobra, he blew out his motor and was gonna scrap the car, but we knew someone that was selling the 03 cobra motor with the eaton supercharger for only $2,500, the 2001 cobra is now running with the 03 motor with the stock 01 tranny....you need to tune the car in order for it to run right.
