I am in the market for 4 new tires for my 98 Cobra. It has the stock rims on it. What do you recommend? What is the widest I can fit on the rear?

SOLD!
i ran 315/35 17 they might have been 30, but either way, they recommend 10" wheel, but i had them on 9" on my 02 GT.
I think the stock rims are 8". Am I wrong?

The stock wheels were only 8", which ever tire you choose to run they normally have a chart. Check the chart to see what the widest tire would be, that you can use with an 8 inch wheel. If you want to run a wider tire, you'll have to go with a wider wheel. On my 96 SVT Cobra Convertible, I run 18X9's up front and 18X10's out back with 305's in the rear and 265's up front. The quad shocks, had to be removed for clearance, Mike. SCT Tuner. P.S. You can go to most tire manufacturers site, and they will have the chart that you can check for yourself. Wheel size, tire size etc., Mike.
i dunno- i know on the 99+ cars they came with 9" stock, but i really don't know a whole lot about the 94 to 98 cars. outside of the fact that the main structure is really close to the new edge cars. (the only difference being minor cosmetics)
but you can get a 9" or even 10" wide repops from cruizen concepts for a shade over $100 each? i just found a new pair of Crager SS 20" x 10" for $50 each.
trust me 255 is as wide as you want on a stock front end (I have 275/35/18 on my Saleen/modded car), otherwise it will have squirrely handling, personally I've found 255/40/17 are the best for all around looks and performance, I want 4 the same size so I can rotate them...right now I have Michelin Pilot Sports on my Cobra, they are awesome!

I think I'm gonna go with the BFG G-Sports for the rear next time, I'm sick of replacing the NITTO 555's every 8K miles in back and I don't even do any burnouts..
and yes your stock rims are 17X8, I'm gonna be running 255-45-17's all the way around, the 275's I have in the back now are too wide for my 8 inch rim!
I like the 40s, I have a 2" lowered car and it's just right in the wheel well and improves handling, once you own your car long enough you'll find what suits you by trying different sizes/brands

My 95 Cobra has the factory wheels which are 8 1/2 wide 17's. I was able to put 275/45/17 Falkens all the way around with no problem nor fitment issues on the rims. It really handled nice!

Yeah the 275 tire got on the rim but with the weight of the car on them your gonna have a 10 inch contact patch which is gonna bow the sidewall an inch on both sides, as I said before I got 275's in back soon to be changed to 255's! And 99 stock Cobra rims are 17X8, the 95's are 17X8.5?
