ok, so i have an 2001 Cobra, i want to buy a kennebell blower for it, and i know i dont NEED to do this but i want to and its a good idea, b4 i get the blower i would get my engine rebuilt with forged pistons and rods, how ever i have a few questions, first, on rods, i look at them online and are there diffrent ones id need? like diffrent sizes? and pistons, ic dished ones and flat head ones, which would i want? and why? what would dished do? im not looking to make a 900HP killing machine, maybe just 450-650 hp. so i guess just some basic info on this would help! thanks!
Well you basically need stock length rod replacement but a forged one, go with the H beam, they are the strongest, for pistons you should really work with an engine builder to decide compression, etc....I'm doing this exact thing to my 96, I have the kenne bell already, but upgrading the block: using stock Terminator forged pistons with forged H beam rods in stock length....don't forget to upgrade your fuel system..good luck, let us know how it goes. (alternatively you might consider selling your car and buying a Terminator, you will spend at least $10K to do all this...also to get to the hp you want with a Kenne Bell you will need intercooling, now you will need 03 Mach/Cobra heads and intake and a full intercooling system...ahh, just another $2K!) Sell the car, buy the Terminator, you'll be better off

Oh yeah, do you have headers and exhaust? If not, add another $1500, then you will need to upgrade the suspension, add another $2500...people have no idea what they are getting into when they "just want to add a supercharger"...I'm telling everyone this because I started out the same way, now that I'm in this far I feel like I signed a contract with the devil...

Geez now that I've added all that up it's $16,000, you literally could keep your car and buy the Terminator and have two cars for what you have in mind.

An idea of what Dave? How to spend even more money? You can rebuild your short block for about $2-3000, of course you still need the supercharger and all supporting mods... might as well swap in a used Terminator motor with the Eaton, they are $5000 all day on Ebay

I know what you're saying in adding up everything but that price of $6500 does come as a new block with the heads included and all. I really don't like any used motor/blower off E-bay. To each his own!
New forged short block and the TVS 2300 installed for under $15,300, right at Roush. Stock 3v heads, stock exhaust manifolds but around 500-508 rwhp.
Dave
Dave a whole 03-04 car with 6 spd and IRS is about the same price! The upgrades/swap is just not a good financial move..if it's emotional, go for it! You still have to spend and upgrade the exhaust and suspension...the Terminator is always the best alternative...

well, all made good points but FYI, i have BBK long tube headers, BBK H-pipe and flowmaster cat back, and BBK cold air kit, and a Short throw shifter and i have 1.5" lowering springs from eibach.
I don't mind buying used off ebay, just need to make sure it has a warranty and they are legit. I would check it all out when it got to my house. did this for my 03 5.4 swap in my 97 Saleen and ran great with zero problems.
A used Terminator engine would be a great/cheaper route to go.

If you find a set of Manley H beams used in good shape with low miles and a Nice price I'd grab em, but as far as pistons go I'd want new!
And 2manystangs tell your engine builder the stock 03-04 Z pistons are prone to expand and have ringland issues from heat with excessive boost, have him gap your rings accordingly!
