Hey Viper Killer I see you put 285 40 17s on the stock rims. How do the 285s work on the 9 inch rims? I think I'll keep stock size on the front but am interested in trying the 285s on back. I'd like 315s but not so sure that I wanna have to use the spacer and grind the IRS bolt just yet. BUT how much differance did you notice in traction during regular driving with the 315s? I drive pretty aggressive and I eat up the tires quite a bit when I don't even realize it. I'm on my third set of tires on the back of the Cobra and still have the stock Goodyears up front hehe. Tires are costing me alot but I'm still always smiling .

I think the key is that IRS bolt that keeps coming up. Because you're probably going to put a tire wider than 275 on the rear you'll likely have space it out or shave down the bolt. I haven't done it, but others have, might want to search on "irs bolt" or something.

I had the same problem as you soda, burned up my rears first so i threw the 285's on the back with stock 17x 9s. They fit fine, with no problem at all, they look nice with the bulge since the have a different aspect than the 315s or 275s, but they clear the irs bolt and all. You could probably even fit 295s or 305s, if some one made them. But for traction, the 315s are worth the effort, every bit. The 285s hooked better than the stock 275s but i believe that is mainly because of the better tread design of the Gs 3s, But when i stepped up to the 315s all i must say is, "damn!", like night and day......no more spinning through 3rd chirping 4th. Heat em up once and *try* to chirp 2nd. Good luck and hope i helped

Holy! Can't chirp second with the 315s? That is a lot of grip. If I get on it I go sideways, let alone chirp. The roads are cold and impregnated with salt, so I'm sure that'll tone down when spring comes. Still, I guess 315s are worth it!

I can get 03 Cobra rims for roughly 112 a piece and I plan on putting 285/40ZR17 G-Forces I have in the back of my shop on the car. Now I just got to find someone who makes a 17x8 03 Cobra rim for my 245/45ZR17 or I will can the idea.
the 285's look alot wider than my 275's on the car now.
By the way i ended up puttting the 315s on 17x10.5 rims, with the 5/16 spacer, and i broke a stud off of each hub....Do not make my mistake DONT USE SPACERS

I had 315s when i was still running IRS with just the bolt shaved. Ive now moved up to 345/35ZR18 and 275/35ZR18. Hooks up alot better on the street.... and no more breaking loose on the freeway.

I had it made by my uncle. It is a little skinnier than a GT , 31 splines, strange spool, and poly-dyne internals.

I have seen posts about putting 315s on the stock 03 cobra rims but am curious if 315s on 17 x 10.5 rims fit w/o mods on the rear-end of the 03 Cobra. Thanks for the help as I need to buy something soon my rear tires are Nittos that now look like drag slicks lol.
I tried 1/4 spacer with my 315 goodyear eagle 1 GS3's but they still rubbed, i had to use 5/16s. what kind of tires are you running?
