Okay the other day I cranked my 03 cobra let it warm it... drove down the street... stopped at the stop sign and the car just cut off... so I cranked it back up... went to the next stop sign watched my rpms drop from 500 to 250 then 0 and the car cut off... i started it up again went back home called my local ford dealer who told me to have roadside assistance tow it to them... after 3hrs of waiting the manager of the service dept went to give it a test drive after replacing the iac valve or whatever and said he found no problem but that i should probably never drive around w/ less than a 1/4 tank of gas in a cobra... so i was like 'okay i've done it b4' but whatever... so i drove the car home and of course filled the gas tank... it still idled at very low rpms when i would come to a complete stop but never shutoff... i didn't drive again at all that day... so this morning i get up to go to work and do the usual... the car cranks fine... i come to the same stop signs where I had the problems at and the car didn't cut off but is still idling low... so anyway i get to this railroad track so of course i'm slowing down and i downshift to 2nd gear from 4th and the car cuts off... so i crank it back up, come to the red light and afraid of the car dying again i just rev it to 1000 rpm til the light changes...got to work which was right after that light, parked it and it didn't cut off... the whole way back home it never cut off either and i didn't even rev it... so why would this happen sometimes and not others?... sorry for the long story and all... i'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they've figured out what's causing it... the only mods i have are mac cai and borla cat-back exhaust... I know i heard somewhere that they had like recalls on some of the first cobras put out or whatever because of bad heads or something... so i'd appreciate anyone's responses or advice... thx!!
MAC's are natorius for bad idle. Also you could have sucked in a dropplet of oil on you MAF element from the Aircleaner. I would pull the MAF element and clean it with a Electronic contact cleaner ( Spray on) or have some one clean it.
My car does the exact same thing, (Mods on signature) but am not worried because i have been informed the only way to fix the problem is with a chip (or programmer) which i am in the process of installing.

Much of the problem sounds familiar although I do not have an 03 but an 01 (lacking supercharger). My problems started by installing a BBK CAI. Three issues come into play: Intake air temperature sensor may be directly affected if the upper intake (if made out of aluminum) gets heated up. Secondly, the turbulence created by the bend in the fender well pipe may actually inhibit proper measurements made from the MAF thus leading to ineffeicient fuel/air mixture. Also some of the filters may eject oil onto the MAF sensor as described, but that is hard to believe. Even paper filters have oil on them to some degree. With the cold air intake installed, I had problems with starting (really sounded like it was anemic) as well as stalling. Reprogramming the chip may be the required fix. Since the MAF is calibrated for the volume of the factory intake, changing the volume after the MAF will cause some issues. I replaced the upper section of the CAI with the stock plastic tube and corrected the stalling problems. The factory pipe has less volume than the aftermarket intake. Perhaps a different MAF calibrated for the size intake you have installed may correct the probelm (a 5.4L lightning MAF may be the way to go to compensate for the displacement of the intake). Just a guess, but some how it makes a little sense.
You should get a scan tool or at least check the DTC's for pending codes. Sometimes the computer will compensate issues at fault without tripping the service engine soon light (MIL). Just a thought....
Mach's have been experiencing the same problems after installing the K&N Aircharger. The problem is usually the screen. For some strange reason if the screen is left out the car will stall. place the screen in and no drivability issues.
I know the MAC and the BBK systems are flat gaskets with no provision for the gasket. What the Mach owners have found to work is take the rubber gasket that comes with the kit, remove the screen from the rubber gasket(this just folds off) and place it on the rubber gasket. We then hold the screen to the new gasket with some black electrical tape just enough to secure it to the new intake gasket. Then install everything and the idle is smoothed out after resetting the computer.

Do you mean the screen that goes right over the MAFS on the stock airbox? For my FIPK, it says take the screen off and don't install it on the MAFS. My car wants to shut off after I get on it and put it in neutral, I installed my FIPK today. Should I put the screen on? What will the screen do?

Never drive without a 1/4 tank of gas??? WTF? I think you have may just need an adjustment to the throttle body or the MAF may need a cleaning. Also the computer may need some tweaking/tuning...geez those Ford dealers

I too, was having problems with my K&N FIPK intake. I put the mesh screen on, and that was a hassle, reset the battery by disconnecting both terminals and.. voila! the idle is better it doesn't die on me when I'm in neutral after I get on it really hard.. Funny what a little prayer and faith will do.
sounds to me like the computer relearned the added airflow
SVTCOBRA98, I really don't think the mesh screen was the problem solver but COOL glad she's fixed!
