Default 95' Mustang Cobra

Quick question for anyone who knows. I'm looking at adding some performance mods to my stock 5.0 95' Cobra. I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with the GT-40 intake manifolds and heads? What kind of horsepower gains would I generally be looking at? Or do you guys have any other advice on a good set of heads/intake combination to run on the stock motor? Thanks for the help

5.0 mustang magazine claims 30-60 hp on a stock gt motor when using gt40 heads and intake. so, somewhere in that range i guess. a cam would be a big help too, im sure.

I've heard changing out the cam is a pretty big project and may cause other parts to fail? Any insight? Also I'm not a cam expert I not sure of lift and duration, what's a good cam to change to from stock? Any help would be awesome. I've only got about $1800 to blow so I'm on a fairly tight budget. Thanks for the help

I had the Cobra set-up on my old 95GTS mustang. I used the Cobra intake with GT-40Y aluminum heads, Steeda #19 cam, full exhaust and all the bolt-ons. Never dynoed it naturally aspirated or had track numbers with that set-up but knew someone who had very similar mods (different cam and heads-GT-40X). If I remember right, his Cobra (he had a 95 Cobra) hit 285rwhp/315rwtq SAE with those mods. I love the looks of the Cobra intake and if I were your, would simply add a good set of heads, like AFR165's, a good cam, exhaust and a solid tune. Of course you could always supercharge as well, which I did and made 470rwhp with an 11lb set-up.

If you already have a cobra then you should aware that we already have a "cobra" intake and gt40 heads. Are you talking about "upgrading' to gt40P(explorer) heads, or gt40X (aluminum) heads or something along those lines? If so don't waste your money, get some AFR's man, you won't be dissapointed!

Oops! I forgot to put in there that the GT40 intake and cobra intake use the same lower, and for the upper the GT40 has a liiittttttttttttttttle tiny difference in port size, slightly larger. Also, the GT40 has "open runners" not solid cast like the cobra upper. But you will notice no difference at all with a change to a GT40 upper as compared to your cobra intake, especially on a stock car.Any maybe just a few horsepower on a wild car.BUT.... Actually the cobra intake is better because it can be ported where as the individual open runner of the GT40 intake cannot. So you can actually make more power with the cobra. I'm not sure if you knew any of this but just thought I would tell it anyways.
