T5's are infamous for doing this. That's why Ford started putting 6 speeds in Cobras and a stronger 5 speed in GT's. I've owned 3 T5 vehicles, and all of them have suffered from synchro failure over time. My 88 LX 5.0 in particular had problems, but I had a buddy who was the service manager at a Ford dealer who kept me up to date with the latest fixes until my warranty period ran out. Eventually we overhauled the
trans. at 100,000 miles and it ran ok until we upgraded the motor, at which point the synchros failed again (catastrophic failure).
Car now has AOD in it and is owned by guy who builds transmissions for a living.
If you build your motor and drive it hard, the T5 will break. Count on it. Budget extra for the project and be ready with money when it fails. If you can afford, upgrade to a stronger
trans. Otherwise, you'll be walking.
