I like mobil 1 because i can get it at Walmart, and it is readily available almost everywhere. I also use the Mobil 1 oil filter because they are designed to work together. If you buy the 5 gallon jug of oil and an extra quart and the filter it should run you about $35. So it does cost more but the protection is worth it in my book.

Mobil 1 for me, too. I run it in my GT and my Mercedes (Merc came from factory that way). Change every 15000 miles (you'll be surprised how clean it looks even after a year or so in your car). If you live in the desert southwest you might have to change after 12000 miles.

I highly recommend this stuff. It works.

I agree with dollarbill, I also buy my Mobil 1 at Wallyworld wal-mart, I use 5w30 and a motorcraft oil filter. The little extra cost is well worth it. I have just turned 1000 miles on the clock and my dealer said it was ok to change the oil now but not necessary til about 3000 miles for the first change. I like to change it often, but thats just me. I see they have these new Mobil 1 oils that are good for up to 15000 miles, but that seems crazy to me.

What brand of synthetic oil is all personal opinion. Some use Mobil 1 some use pennzoil. I use Castol Full Synthetic and have never had any problems with it. I use K&N oil filters on my cars and after 3000 miles the oil comes out cleaner than with any other oil filter I have ever used. Some people have had problems witht e stuff I use but I haven't so I haven't had any reason to change. DO NOT go back to a regular oil after you switch to a synthetic. If you do you will have a oil leaks. This happened to both of my parents brand new cars that had less than 10,000 miles. My dad's car was a new caddy with the onstar engine and my mom's car was a new pontiac. Both dealerships said it was do to putting regular oil in after using synthetic oil. I don't know if anyone else had any problems like this but i thought I would just share this info.

I think this sentence doesn't make sense, unless you mean "switchin back to pennzo oil syn".

If you're suddenly getting valve noise you've probably mixed in the wrong type/weight of oil and need to drain it all out and start over again incl. a new filter.

Changing over to synthetic oil will not cure an older motor, and may even reveal defects (such as a worn valve train) more than a heavier conventional oil.

i allways put castrol GTX in my car from day one right 3 weeks ago i wanted to try synthetic oil. i put the synthetic in and the first week i had it in i noticed a valve tap and it got louder and louder so after 2 weeks with synthetic oil i took it out and i put castrol gtx with a fram filter and the valve tap went away.
