Default help oil question

just bought a 98 cobra, i have no owners manual and forgot to ask the previous owner. anyone know how many quarts and what type of oil to use. a friend recommended 5w-30. also should i switch to synthetic or go with regular oil its got 72k miles. thanks

Ford says use 5w-30. As far as brand that's up to you. I like Mobil 1 synthetic. And it holds 6 quarts total, including changing the filter too. Don't put more than 6 in it. When checking the oil after startup the dip stick usually reads about 1/2qt low. Leave it there. After sitting a while it'll come up.

this helps me but i was wondering i have a fresh rebuilt motor and we're already going into winter in oklahoma and i was thinking bout putting 10-30 conventional in my 96 cobra, its got block work done to it (whether that matters or not, and conventional oil just to break in motor) you think thats to thick of oil?

personally, if the manual states 5w, put 5w in. what kind of motor?

i would put the motorcraft 5w 30w for break in and then go w/ mobil1
