on my 96 cobra i have the stock cats, nd H pipes without cats.the car has stock headrs and im pretty sure magna flow exuast.i liek the H pipes cuz its gives it a mean ass sound to it but will i lose hp? i hear that i need back pressure from the cats other wise ill loose power. is this true or can i just run wit no cats on?

It wont loose HP unless you install a much larger diameter exhaust with say 3 inch pipes.
2.5 diameter pipes are the largest recommended size for your Cobra, and you can even run an offroad X or H pipe (no cats) and gain some decent HP.
As you have it now, you probably gained some 8-10 hp by removing the cats.
