Unhappy Engine Knock... Burnt Valves?

Hey guys.

I've been going through hell trying to remove the leaks from my Bassani midlengths. Finally got the leaks taken care of. Now there's a knocking noise that I'm needing to get rid of. I had a bad leak from possibly two flanges on the passenger side header. The knock is coming from what seems to be near the passenger side valve cover. It sounds REALLY bad!

Anyways, I've heard of the possibility of burnt valves from exhaust leaks, and I'm thinking this is likely the problem... but what does a burnt valve sound like?

And what are the options of fixing the problem? I don't wanna take it to Ford, and there are crappy shops in this area. Anyone know of a good write up on checking this stuff?

The sound is smooth and consistent, and it increases with RPM's. You can't hear it at idle. The car also won't idle well once it gets warm

Thanks for any info (and I really need some info).

You may want to check into seeing if Ford will cover it. i had a knock in my head on my drivers side in my GT. I thought it was from my headers, but it wasn't. I found a press release from Ford on the internet that really pissed me off. They said that they willingly and knowingly put bad heads in 2001-04 GTs, F150, Expiditons, and Crown Vics. They said that it would cost them to much money to recall. They also said they weren't going to contact the owners of these cars, but if you know that is the problem and go in and dmeand themto fix it they much. They called it the secret warranty. If you don't ask... we won't tell. I'm now have my attorney working on it, since I paid to fix it and then I learned that they had to regardless of miles or years. You should search the net for the same article and take it to them, if that is the same problem, you are having. They said that some 03 cobras may have it to if made before 9/02. Hope this helps.
