Smile would a tuner be worth the expense?

I am considering purchasing a Tuner, I'd like some opinions as to if it's worth the money and which one is the best and or easiest to use. I'm an old fart and not familar with tuners. I have a 98 SVT Coupe W/36,000 miles on it,the few Mods I have are: CnL CAI, KnN FIPK, 4.10's, Steeda Tri-Ax shifter, Venom 400 (doesn't seem to add much) and will be installing a FlowMaster Cat back shortly, next will be a Mid Pipe probably catted. Any help would be appreciated.

from what i understand a tuner can benefit a car even if it is bone stock. i would wait till after you get your exhaust work done and get it dyno-tuned after you are done with everything you want to do. the two most popular brands are Diablosport and SCT. I have heard suggestions to use the one that your local speed shop is familiar with (whoever will dyno-tune it for you) hope this helps

Thanks je99GT. I was thinking I'd wait for the exhaust, I'll probably do it in two stages. First the catbacks and then when the wallet recovers I'll go with a mid pipe.

My Predator came with a packaged tune from DiabloSport for my 98svt. Some power & better throttle response & OBDII code reader. Easy to use

If you ever have your car dynoed and tuned some places cut you a break on what they charge, if they support or are dealer of the tuner you use. When I had my car dynoed, the dyno operator used my predator to adjust and install my tune. We did five pulls and I was there about 2.5 hours, he only charged me $200. He even bought my wife and I lunch.

I agree,Get the car tuned on the dyno with either the SCTor perdetor. It is well worth the money and the tune is everything on these cars.It will make the car safe and maximize your HP #s.

I would suggest getting the tuner s/w before getting the tune. Then you can 1) Get the stock tune prior, and 2) See what changes the tuner made.
A dyno tune will tune you for WOT (a.k.a. open loop) but not for everyday driving (a.k.a. closed loop).
Knowing these changes would allow you to fine tune the computer, something the dyno tuner does not have the time to do.
