Talking Shifting gears in traffic

Good morning gentleman. Being new to driving a stick, I still have alot of questions.

I have a Honda Odyssey and under normal driving conditions, its running at about 1500 to 1800 RPM's. Should I try achieve the same RPM range in my Cobra? I'd have to shift to 5th, or 6th; but the lower the RPM range, the less the damage on the engine right?

I've also heard that when people come to a RED light, they throw the transmission into "N" until the light turns green. Others downshift all the way to 2nd. Any preferance on which is better? Also, I sometimes hear a "clattering" noise when I shift. Does anyone experience this as well? Should I invest in a better fly wheel, and clutch combo?

Thanks!

I tend to down shift at either low speeds (say under 35mph) and I will roll to the red light anticipating that I won't have to stop. Or at high speeds (saying coming down an off ramp formt the interstate) I will drop to 4th then to 3rd to allow the engine to assist the brakes.

Otherwise I just drop in in N and use the brakes to slow.

Chattering when shifting is not a good thing, a solid shift should clunk at most.

It doesn't happen consistently. However, what is the "Clattering" a sign of?

Guys, I've found my answer. It looks like its called "Clutch Clatter". Apparently alot of people who own Corvettes have this problem, see the following link:

Noise while engaging, disengaging clutch!!! - Corvette Forum

Alof of frustrated Corvette owners!

Any Cobra owners experience "Clutch Clatter"?
