Good evening guys! I have a question about custom tunes. I've heard alot about SCT, and Diablo tuning software; and the importance of getting a accurate/good tune. What constitutes the need for a custom tune? Would a custom tune be needed for the following mods:
yes, you would definitely want a good custom tune. No offense, but i don't think you are knowledgeable enough to tune it yourself, so i would find a GOOD mustang tuner in your area and have them do it for you. you can probably go one of two ways: buy a tuner and have them program it, or have them burn you a chip. A tuner can cost anywhere from $300-$1,000 dollars. To have it tuned will cost somewhere around $500 dollars. A good tune is very important, a lot of people have good set ups but never get a proper tune and their car never runs like it should. It is possible to see anywhere from 50-100 Hp gain with a tune on a car like yours with the mods it has. DEFINITELY GET IT TUNED!
A tune is a way to extract the safest and most power out of any set up you have. I think with a smaller pulley, making more boost, a tune would be smart. Make sure the car is not running lean. You can remove codes, shut of the rev limiter, have the fans come on at differet temps, adjust a/f...just so many things. Stock Cobras were making additonal power with just a tune, so you could be in for a nice suprise.

Thats my dilema, how do you find a GOOD Mustang tuner? You are right, I dont' have experience in this area, thats why I am leary about the custom tune. There's a shop about an hour away from where I live, but I don't know anyone who visits this shop. Here's the link to the site:

Can I give you ONE bit of advice..you want a tune on a DYNO! You want the car under load to see the air fuel parameters and tune accordingly. I don't see a dyno on that site, so I will assume they load a tune on to a chip and go from a variety of differnt programs. With your minor modifications you would be fine but a a tune on a dyno will give you real world number and information. I'll ask around to see if anyone knows of a place in Ohio.
yes, definitely want a dyno tune, just look in your local phone for speed shops or google it, read what customers had to say about the shop and what kind of feedback they received.
Trust me I also have a 04 cobra, and you need to have it dyno tuned. You could try looking up Dynojet and Mustang Dyno. These sites will tell who has thier dynoes in your area. Good luck.
Thanks guys, I've already contacted BigShotDyno and they sound like they know what they are doing. The mods don't begin until this Spring!! I'll let you know when completed.
