2001 Mustang SVT Cobra Smoking Blue Smoke At Start Up
hi i have a 2001 cobra wit 42k miles its has 330 to the wheels. last week it start to smoke at start up. big puff of blue/ white smoke, i know that means oil . but sum times it does smoke and othera it doesn;t. Today it smoke when i was at stop lights and when i gave it gas its not burnin much oil. the olny work i have done to is it bbk x pipe wit high flows bbk cold air intake slp cat back. and its been dyno tune like 5 months ago. I just drop it off at ford they are gunan get to it tomorow. im thinkin oil seals. wat do u guys think ? and wat u think im pay to fix it????????????
Blue is oil, black is gas. It sounds like a valve guide or seal. If it smokes after it warms up, then it could be a ring. At cold start up, it's usually a guide or seal.

I can tell you the valve/cam cover gaskets alone installed are about $650.00 at a dealer! Check the date on the side of the head, I heard something about valve guide problems on 2000 and under heads.
I believe I'd run a compression test before anything else.
Goodluck.

hey just got the car back to today. they said the compression test was good the seals are good. they said it has a small leak on the piston ring. he told me for them to fix it they have to replace the motor 6,500 just for the motor. im just gunna wait it out to i get money together and redo the motor.
hey i been thinking about wat im going to do to the motor, i think im gunna trade the car in for 03 svt cobra how can u get the smoke to stop a bit? and if i want to sale it out right wat u think i can get for it ??
If it's an actual ring problem as they say, it's going to smoke, especially once it's warm. I really don't see how the compression test can be okay, and have ring problem. There had to be a drop it at least one cylinder wouldn't you think? Was this a Ford garage that told you this?

yea it was ford i took it to the same place were i got it. they said that a piston ring may have a small leak, but i took it a couple other places and there sayin oil sealsz.
If it's mainly puffing smoke at start-up after it's been sitting a few minutes then it's more than likely valve seals. Still not cheap to fix, but at least it's not $6,500.00 + labor. If you crank the RPMs up and there's a cloud behind you go for the 03.

I just bought a 2001 Mustang Cobra with 48000 miles. I have had the car only a month and it is starting to do the same thing. Blue smoke and start up and sometimes when reved up.
