Go to Latemodel Restoration Supply - America's #1 Restoration and Performance Parts Warehouse and look up part numbers LRS-13404DA, this is the right hand side light, $179.95. And LRS-13405DA, this is the left hand light, $179.95 for it too. Expensive but they're a lot better looking than the stockers.

I had a 2001 GT that I had to replace a tail light on and now I have a 2001 Cobra. I think the amber area is filled with an extra bulb. You can take yours off and compare with the back picture of this one. http://www.americanmuscle.com/taillights-9904-smoked.html

It looks like there is a unused circle where the amber is on the stock cobra lights. You might be able to modify it, but of course that is a lot of money to spend on a maybe. Also if it gets messed up then that's really suck. Your other option is to modify the wiring and light sockets to a V6/GT. Have to be careful to get the right wires connected up. If you go this route you have to make sure the spliced wires are sealed well. Solder and a soldering iron will probably make the best connection with some heat shrink over them and then seal the edges of the heat shrink with glue.

Generally we are just out of luck when it comes to replacing tail lights.

The wiring harnesses are different between GTs and 99-01 Cobras. You can cut up your harnesses and make GT's work but I wouldn't suggest it. I bought an extra set of tail lights a year ago because I knew they were never going to get any cheaper.

I got to thinking there might be a product like tint for tail lights. I found this site DECALFX.com! Pre-Cut Headlight & Tail Light Overlays Smoked Yellow Blue Red Cars Trucks Motorcycles Tinted PreCut Covers Windscreen Kits Vinyl Mirror See Through Clear Transparent Sheets

Mike you are right Late Model Restoration has our tail lights now for $480 for the pair vs $80 for replacement V6/GT ones.
