Arrow 1999 Mustang Cobra SVT Oil Cooler machined hole porting oil?

Hi everybody.

I have a 1999 Cobra SVT, 32 Valve 4.6L with an interesting problem.

It's porting oil through what appears to be a machined hole about two thirds of the way from the oil filter to the block.

I didn't even know it had this hole until it started gushing oil. (And neither did either of the dealer's shops here in Mission Viejo, CA area.)

Have any of you heard of this before? Is this somehow related to a filter bypass or an internal seal on the cooler? I can't find anything on the cooler diagram.

Is it a simple bolt-on replacement?

Thanks for the help!

OOOPs...

Should have noted that the machined hole is in the Oil Cooler housing, not the block.

My 95 GT developed a leak like yours a couple of years ago and the "mechanic" said it was a faulty casting and used jb weld to fix it. It seemed to work. Now I am getting oil in my radiator, no water in the crankcase. So if the hole is machined what is it for?

mine is doing it too, poured in the oil with filter off and it came right back out, could this be my pressure problem??? And with filter on it stops a minute after startup and comes out as soon as it cools about a half a quart

Thanks, guys.

I have no idea of the inside workings of the cooler, so I guess I'll just find best price on a replacement unit and put it in.

johnsodk: Did you drain all oil and water first? (Seems pretty obvious that is a necessity.)

Hoping not to find oil in the coolant...so far no coolant in the oil.

Attackkatt: I think with the filter off, you will always have the oil come straight out. But interesting to note that its not under pressure when leaking through the port.

Four dealers shops have been unable to give any good info on this machined port...

Appreciate the feedback guys...
