Default 1st gear problems with 1997 Mustang Cobra

Well I first want to start off by saying I am so glad to see that there is a forum for these beautiful SVT'S!!!

My problem lies with my recently purchased 1997 Cobra. It has 71,xxx miles and has a transmission issue. 75% of the time I try to put the car into 1st gear whenever I am at a complete stop, the transmission will grind and jump... sometimes it will catch and go. I can start out in 2nd gear with no troubles.

Any suggestions??? Thanks!

My best friend had a 97 Cobra with that exact problem and he wound up having it rebuilt. I don't remember precisely what the tech said was causing that problem though. We have some pretty technically savvy guys around these forums. Try a PM to rj8806, he can probably help you out.

Probably a syncro problem.. that could prevent it from going in and may cause it to pop out

I am not sure which is the better way to go??? Is having these T45's rebuilt worth it or should I look into getting a different transmission? Any suggestions?

in my 1995 cobra the transmission was screwed up and i pulled it twice to have it rebuilt. the second time the guy put in a new syncroniizer and then told me he found a bent shifter fork. the gears were a little tighter after that but for the better.

Ouch, that hurts! I got my T-45R from Richard (rj8806), in fact I was one of his first customers for that tranny. It's a rebuilt T45 with "all new upgraded carbon fiber synchronizers, bearings, seals (and gears as required), with the aluminum alloy case and all new billet machined PRO shifter with internal spring biasing for positive, crisp shifts".

I 100% satisfied with both the tranny and his customer support!
