Talking 4.10 gears and tune done today

I added C&L mass air housing/intake pipe & Basanni X-pipe with cats. The mufflers are stock. Today I had FRPP 4.10's and a tune done. The gear install & tune by Lasota Racing (columbus OH) is great and the gears have no noise at all. I almost went with 3.73 but I am here to say 4.10 is the minimum for a 1998 Cobra convertible. I dynoed 276.6 hp at the rear wheel or about 17hp more than stock. The gear change allows shifts that keep you at an rpm that is useful. Before the change I was always waiting on the revs to build. My advice is skip any exhaust changes, do the intake, tune the car and add gears. If you have money for sound do the exhaust. The gears and tune are a very noticeable change.

Cool

Congrads!

I agree get a professional tune. I dynoed 260 rwhp after I removed the sct program. I am going back next year with my sct program and get a prof tune. 17 gain is awesome! Yes, you can tell a huge difference in the gear. 4:10 are a little much, they were installed before I purchase the car. I recommend 3:73, with 4:10 gears and driving on the interstate over heats the car in the dead of the summer with the a/c on. Congrads dude!

I had a 99 and 4.10 woke it up.

catbacks. man i wasted tons of money on them....headers yes...catback..never again!!!!!!...i'd got cutouts..an electric cutouts so when i want to pounce i'm running open headers. when done close em.

Anyone try 4.56 i think that too much for a daily....i too almost went with 3.73...the 4.10 is the best choice it would appear and the most popular.

I think catbacks are a subject to be talked about...there cost..well if premade for the GTO anywher between 595 and 1200....and for what? 10- 15 hp.
electric cutouts cost aprox 150 each...and you get all the hp available. that 595 1200 would buy headers which on most na cars would give you anywhere between 25-40 hp... and just in case you haven't heard a headeed car without a catback....its quite....until you stomp it. I think not having a caback confuses you oponent ( one of the first mods) and allows your car to sound classier....Nobody but us car guys really likes to hear LOUD exhausts.

think about it.

Cool

I 100% agree Napper. I love to hear the exhaust, but I love to hear my radio to! The other problem with loud exhaust is it is a attention getter. Example, if I running down the road and get on it just a little, the cops will hear me. I even had a cop from Dairy queen turn around and look directly me!

By the time I paid 900.00 dollars + 200 in labor, and a whole saturday helping. I will pass on the next car, and put a charger on my car and let her stay stock! HAHA!

What are electric cut outs? fill me bro.

Dairy Queen has cops???

Cutouts are basically a y-pipe welded onto your exhaust. One side flows through to the cat-back and the other is blocked off. Flip a switch and it opens, allowing the exhaust to exit right there, bypassing the CB.
