Default What is the difference between the 1999 Cobra and the 2003-2004 Cobra engine?

I just bought a 1999 Cobra and was planning on supercharging the engine sometime soon. I just wanted to know how much power the internals can take. At the most i am planning on around 500rwhp and need to know what i will have to change to reach my goal. Keep in mind tis is a daily driver and it also needs to stay somewhat reliable. Thanks!

To my knowledge the rods and pistons are not up to the task of 500 rwhp. The crank is ok and the block will hold. The 2 are actually very different....

1999 had 9.85:1 compression, the 2003-2004 had 8.5:1 compression. 1999 had an aluminum block, 2003-2004 was iron. 1999 had a powdered metal crank and rods, the 2003-2004 has forged H beams and forged pistons.

The 03/04 engine had an iron block, different rods and pistons, different heads, different cams, different intake, and a blower.

There are no parts that are used on both.

Isn't it the other way around? Don't quote me, but the 2001-2002 was aluminum and the 1999 was not I thought.

From wikipedia;

The engine block was changed from the Teksid block to the Windsor Aluminum Plant or WAP block. The WAP block is regarded to be weaker than the previous Teksid block. Some 2001s received the Teksid, either from the factory or as a replacement motor

The WAP was aluminum as well. The 99/01 engine was aluminum, and the 03/04 was iron.

There were no 2002 cobra's.

4-5 years is the difference. All kidden aside, I think the guys above answered your questions. You should be ok up to 8-9 psi. Anything above that and you may have block problems.
