Also when you installed the TOB, did you grease anything? The bearing retainer is the cover that goes over the input shaft, it's what the TOB slides back and forth on so it's hard to miss. You really need to grease the retainer on installation of the new TOB, or else it will squeek until you do.
Last, you need to make sure the clutch is then properly adjusted with an aftermarket quadrant and firewall adjuster, or else you'll never get it to be quiet.
I don't have pics on me, but I'll do a search online and see if I can get a diagram or something. |
I was actually referring to the fingers that snug up the TOB to the fork, but yes, there are also fingers that clip the fork to the ball. I greased everything, the ball, the fingers, the tob, and the bearing retainer (I just never heard the name before lol). My only question now is what type of grease do you recommend? I used the plain old black/grey lithium grease, should I use something else?
As far as clutch adjustment goes, we've had that discussion on other threads and no one offers up the correct method for adjustment. One Ford tech on another site said the tob should be snug against the pressure plate fingers. Others have said there should be a small gap (1/8" to 1/4") between the tob and pp. I currently have mine setup with a small gap and I'm using the freeplay correction kit to keep things snug. This weekend I may get under the car and grease things up again to see if it helps with the noise. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
