Default 1996 cobra thinking about supercharger

i'm starting to research superchargers for a 1996 cobra. the goal is to make this summertime daily-driver even more fun. so cost and reliability are paramount.

i'm hoping to hear some feedback from you all about the good, the bad and the ugly. what brand's easiest/best/value.

thx!

you need to decide how much you want to spend. you can bolt a low PSI unit on and go, or you can spend a lot and get a lot. A twin screw unit like the ones on the 2003 Cobra is nice. Power from idle and little mods needed to support it. plan on spending 5k though. I have a Novi 2000 on a 97 Cobra. It moves a lot of air so every single part on the car has been upgraded minus the crank. Stock Cobra steel crank. You name it and it has been upgraded. Tuning is the most important though. $12,000 later the car dynoed 572 hp at the wheels. If you are not that serious, stay small, cheap and simple. Many units come as complete kits. Blower, fuel pump, injectors all in one box.

I'm a fan of the centrifugal blowers. I'd say look into vortech or procharger. If you want twin screw I believe Kenne Bell is the best out there. Either way most superchargers are going to cost you a good amount of money. You can get the vortech non intercooled but that will cost you power. Be ready to spend around 4-5K

I'd been looking at the procharger(s) and liked the fact that it was 'all in one box'. When you installed yours, were you able to DIY or is it too complicated? My guesstimate at price for the procharger was ~4K. Yikes--maybe wait for a tax return.

Have you had any issues with reliability after install?

Reliability depends on your driving style. chances are your new found power will give you a lead foot for a while. The fact is; if you are only planning on spending 4-5k, you will have to stay small. meaning low boost. Again some units out there are bolt ons, so no other mods will be required. Get an adjustable unit. Start at low PSI, if you decide in the future you want more power, upgrade your support parts and turn up the boost.
