So, weather it be the makers of the Whipple or the Suppliers, somebody is going to pocket alot of money. The mark-up on all the upgrade products is either out in plain sight or hidden, but it's there.
Do you by any chance know who shot JFK too?

Wish I could. But I would jeopordize my sources and my business contracts. I say, sign up to be a dealer somewhere and see for yourself...otherwise wake up
I have ZERO to gain by sticking up for the aftermarket companies or installers. I have a full time 40hr a week secure job in SE/Michigan (somehow). But by PERSONALLY knowing the person (and hunting at his house) that designed the MP112 supercharger housing & guts, and knowing what it cost them to produce, and what they sell it for, I can say with confidence that the sole source of increase is the manufactuer. It hurts FRPP and Whipple severely to have this huge increase. They are not even raising the full amount, eating some to at least have a chance to stay competitive.
Now...if their (company making the guts) costs have gone up I don't know. Don't care either. That kind of info they can play a shell game and hide at the upper levels. But I am willing to bet is has to do with SHAREHOLDER RETURN. The root of all evil in the automotive industry IMO.
I don't know if anyone from outside of Michigan followed the American Axle saga that went on here.
There was a 2 month strike. Talks went on and on. In the end, 2000 people lost their job nationwide and the rest took a 40% pay cut
2 weeks later the CEO got an EIGHT and a HALF MILLION DOLLAR BONUS!!! ($8,500,000) for his role in saving the company so much money. Do you think they lowered their prices to GM for axles? Probably not
Can anyonne phatom $8.5 mil? Who can spend that much, plus his annual salary of $2.1 mil. While a bunch of other people lose their jobs, their houses and their cars. Not saying some may not have been deadbeats. But if the company was hurting so bad it had to cut jobs, how can they dish out $8+ mil?
So for the last time...if you want to be bitter about the cost, quit whining and don't by a blower. End of Story. But please do not blame Tillman and the other sellers, installers. Now that I am officially a dealer for some components, I know how little the mark up is on the big parts. It's odd really...the more the part cost, the tighter the margin? A $20 billet do-dad may cost you $4 and you can sell for $20 and people line up.
You also are not allowed to undercut. If so, guys like me could sell at 5% over cost and make it up on install or not care. But that would hurt the people that rely on sales AS THEIR INCOME. I don't want to do that either. If my biz doesn't pan out, I still have a good paying job.
And I WILL NOT be quiting my day job anytime soon. Will just be busier after work and on weekends for now doing the hands on. My wife will be the shipper/receiving and clerical worker.
Chris, you opened a can of worms with this thread...but it has long been overdue to inform some of the uninformed
The moral of my long boring story...be sure who you are po'd at over price increases. But in the case of Superchargers from Whipple, FRPP, Roush and Magnacharger...don't be mad at them, only who they buy their guts from. May be political suicide for me to say that on a public forum, but I despise corporate greed

I never singled out Tillman or anyone else. I said "Whipple". If Tillman manufactures Whipple, then I guess I did speak of them. I understand that the authorized dealers have to sell the product at a price over the MSRP and actually give to some of their reliable customers for the MSRP. I blame the manufactures of the Whipple S/C. They need to seek out other manufactures of components for better prices or even make the components themselves. Yes I am bitter, but not just for myself, but for all the people that had their hearts set on buying a Whipple S/C. I don't like to see anyone have their dreams crushed. I'm just a great person that thinks of all.

I apologize if I mis-understood the direction of your bitterness. I also think of all, that was the starting of my business. To help the average person that wants to have fun or race, but is tight on money. Met a kid yesterday restoring a 66 Mustang. He was upset because he couldn't afford to finish some things. I offered to do his interior very cheap to help him out. Thought he was going to cry he was so happy.
I wouldn't be where I am today without the help of many people that were twice my age when I was 20-25 and trying to race, buy a house and work.
The companies could possibly look at IHI for supercharger guts. As far as making their own, you have to consider patent issues.
I also am bitter...at SPX/OTC (Rotunda in a way too). I wanted to get the proper Ford Service tool kit for rear axles instead of using a universal tool. I used it back in my dealer days.
New it's $1200, used on ebay with missing parts is $400-500. The kicker is the tool came out in 1976, and was updated a couple times since 1979. The total of all the metal in the thing is probably about $100...NOW THAT'S A MARK UP

You are so correct! We pay our CEO 26.3 mill/yr and have been getting our hours hacked ever since the economy took a turn. I would love to see a company cut their Exec management wages when the blue collar guys gets the shaft.
Back to the topic ... do what capitalism is set up to do ... large price increases means purchasing a different SC ... plain and simple. If they don't get the message from a severe loss of sales then they don't deserve my business to begin with.
+1 KB, Saleen, Magna and Roush are jumping for joy.
Yes and no...more like holding their breath at the moment.
