Just copying this information over from another thread where some guys were wondering (doubting) the efficiency of a single blade round 85mm throttle body, and thought the price was $6500. This is to clear all of that up.

Just to clear up some of the misconceptions in this thread... I'd like to address a few things.

First would be the price. I know that Jegs and a few other larger companies are listing these things for $6400-6500 dollars. The Street Legal kit is being sold by Tillman Speed Inc for $5775.99. This is a VERY competitive price, but you have to think outside of that. It's not just cheaper than the competition... the blower itself is more efficient, and produces more horsepower per boost level than anything in the same market. As well, you're getting lower intake air temperatures, and the largest intercooler assembly available on the market. This kit is a beast, and I don't think people realize it's potential.

Everything on this kit was engineered to kick ass, even when upgrading your boost levels. The competition air kit includes a mass air flow sensor and tube that will get you the range of 90# per minute! You won't have any problems at 800+RWHP with that!

The throttle body actuallly might be deceiving some people above. That round throttle body actually has a larger area than most of your favorite options. To compare:

Stock twin 55mm bore with 10mm shaft = 5.66 sq. in. total area
GT500 twin 62mm bore with 10mm shaft = 7.44 sq. in. total area
Edelbrock single 85mm bore with 8.8mm shaft = 7.64 sq. In. total area

Don't let the 85mm circle fool you. Twins aren't always better, just blonde drunk ones.

In addition to the area being equal, a single bore will always flow better than a twin bore because there is less bounding surface area to interrupt the flow. Also, both the stock GT throttle body and the GT500 throttle body have an as cast surface leading into the bores, where the Edelbrock unit is machined through for less wall friction. Last, the inlet is port matched to the throttle body for a perfect matching transition.
Overall you CANNOT match the performance gains, upgradability, consistency, temperatures, and parasytic loss minimization of the Edelbrock supercharger kit with any typical Lysholm twin screw design or centrifugal design supercharger. And try doing it for under $6K!

You WILL end up running higher temperatures and more boost AND paying more for a competing supercharger system to replicate Edelbrock's results.

There's no reason you don't have one ordered yet!!!!

There's no doubt that Saleen makes a nice kit. Keep in mind you're getting better injectors, new throttle body (larger in area than the GT500) and larger intercooler surface with the Standard Street Legal kit and making the same power (within 2% of Saleen) with a FACTORY FORD AIR BOX. If you opt to also use the Competition Air Intake System, you gain nearly 15RWHP (almost 20 flywheel horsepower) AND you'll never have to replace the MAF sensor unless you plan on making over 850RWHP. As well, you get 41# injectors, which will lower your injector duty cycle in comparison with Saleen's kit utilizing 38/39s. You're going to run cooler, make more horsepower, and getting it cheaper!

TORRANCE, CA (FEBRUARY 11, 2008) - Edelbrock is excited to announce the arrival of their E-Force Supercharger system for 2005-09 Ford Mustang GT. This all-new design is engineered and manufactured by Edelbrock and features an Eaton® Twin Vortices Series (TVS®) GEN VI rotor assembly - the same internals used on the new Corvette ZR-1. The ultra-low restriction design has 15" long runners for maximum torque, an integrated bypass valve for reduced parasitic loss, and a high capacity 110 square inch air-to-water intercooler. This combination improves a 2005-2009 Mustang GT to an impressive 466 horsepower and 439 ft./lbs. of torque, with only five (5) pounds of boost, producing more power per psi than any Mustang supercharger system on the market today.

Now shipping, Edelbrock offers two packages; a complete 50-state legal kit (#1580) designed to bolt-on and produce 466 horsepower and 439 foot pounds of torque at five pounds of boost pressure and an off-road use competition kit (#1585) designed for purpose built applications requiring additional boost pressure and custom calibration.

This complete kit (#1580) includes everything you need to install the E-Force supercharger on 2005-2009 Mustang GT's, including supercharger/manifold assembly, air inlet with 85mm throttle body, fuel injectors, air-to-water intercooler, spark plugs, coil covers and handheld flash programmer to properly tune the factory ECU for the added power. Edelbrock offers an available 3-Year/36,000 mile warranty and 50-State emissions legal EO is pending.


Competition kit (#1585) is capable of supporting 700-800 horsepower, depending on application, and includes the essential components including, supercharger manifold assembly, 85mm throttle body, idler bracket, belt tensioner brace, water crossover, intercooler and intercooler pump, heat exchanger, idler pulleys and mounting hardware. Undersized pulleys are available in 2.75", 3.00", 3.25" and 3.50".

To my knowledge the X-charger is one of the better superchargers for the V6. I believe there are also a few centrifugal superchargers but the X-charger is the only positive displacement one (that i can remember off the top of my head lol)

I'll let you know in a couple of months. I've already the 1580 setup on layaway with AMP Performance out of Phoenix.

Considering this is going on my otherwise bone stock DD stang with 22K miles, I should have some good "ground truth" for the average Joe who's interested in this system with the Dyno sheets to back it up.
