I sold my '79 Mustang 2.3L for $1000, and now I'm going to buy a 2000 Mustang...I had a few questions/thoughts
This is his setup/ad from Craigslist:
V6 5-spd. 105k miles.
Very light mods:
dual exhaust from a GT
GT Spoiler
underdrive pulley
Cold air intake (induction!)
rear sway bar
SVT Cobra Rims (worth $185 a piece)
Full synthetic oil
Problems: windshield wiper fluid doesn't squirt much Front tires have low tread.
P.S. There is some bubbling of the paint which unfortunately has been partially ripped off (either rain/wind or some kids), exposing a 2x1'' section of rust. So that part will need re-painted.
I went with my dad to check it out and everything seems good, and if all goes well I should be buying it this wednesday, assuming it passes smog like he says it should...
-It will need new tires, all the way around it seems..so he has the stock Cobra rims and the tires 245/45/17. TireRack has them for around $65 and up for the same size. Is that a good size or should I look for a different size tire?
-We turned the car on and then the headlights and heard the engine drop a little..so maybe would be needing a new alternator some time soon?
- The gas pedal seemed pretty low. It sat lower than the clutch and brake..is that normal on a Mustang? I'm used to them being roughly level.
What kind of things should I look at as far as maintenance is concerned with it having 105K miles on it?
What should I keep an eye out on in the coming months with it's mileage?
Also, how much horsepower do you think it has with his setup? I'll post up pictures if people want after I buy it.
Thanks for any input....can't wait to buy it.
a stock V6 mustang from 99-04 has around 190 hp and with an underdrive pulley adding 5-8 hp and a CAI adding about 3-5hp, the hp can be around 200. Since the is over 100k, the normal maintenance will probably be a new battery, plugs and wires. As for your wheels and tires, the cobra rims are good and the tires are a good size. the wheels are 17x8 and i jus ordered that size last week and jus got them in. looks great. you wouldnt want to get anything bigger really. the bigger the rim, the lower the performance. if you are looking to mod your mustang for performance AND style, i would stick with what you got. jus asking, around how much is this car costing you?

His original asking price, when I first saw it was $4400...he then dropped it a few times...$4100, $3800, $3500 (when I started talking to him)...then when I was checking it out, he said that someone offered him $3100 so he was going to let it go for that, but they backed out. So, we've verbally agreed on $3000. Assuming someone doesn't offer him more, then I should be getting it for $3000 after he smogs it. Good price, right?
yeah thats a decent price, i have a 2000 auto with 85k and it runs amazing. since its over 100k, you need to take real good care of it and make sure you dont spend all of your money on mods right off that bat. replacing stock parts and having back up money for car emergencies is wise. if you want to get your car painted too, that will cost a pretty penny.

Eh, no real money for mods. School full-time plus minimum wage doesn't really help. I prob. will paint it though...since it looks like that 'ripped off paint' looks more like it was hit and then tried to fix it with bondo or something. So it's 'peeling' because of a bad job. A new fender, painted would cost about $180 or so...but it's prob. better to paint the whole car so that the fender doesn't stand out so much. But I am definitely happy with the car, just hope it turns out good.
yeah same here, a good paint job and some touch up and save all of your money for keeping it running great is smart. but i have to worn you, the more you will want to mod your stang!! its addicting!! haha good luck with everything

Ha, I'm more of a 'keep it simple' person....plus, the neighborhood I'm in isn't great. It's not bad, but it's not that good, so the more you put into a car, the better it looks..the greater chance of it getting stolen. Thanks for the replies. Can't wait until Wednesday.
Oh yeah, I was telling my brother about the underdrive pulleys...he said that they're good, but to check the flywheel or something like that? To make sure it's a full setup instead of just the pulleys? Can someone tell me a little more about what he meant or explain it to me? Thanks.
