Hey I'm a 2.3 member wanting a little bit more motor. I was wondering what kind of MPG's you 3.8 guys are getting. I'm getting bout 21mpg with my little four banger.
I only get around 19-21 mpg with in town driving and stuck in traffic out here in Phoenix. But beleive or not on the highway, for about 2-3 hour trips, I'll get anywhere from 29-33 mpg.
I've done it more than once going from Arizona to California and back. Last time I went I got 30 mpg going there, and 33 coming back.

I've been only getting between 14-17 mpg city, maybe 18 if I grandma it...I'm not sure why the crappy mileage (i WAS getting 12 mpg during winter but that's because of the extra 270 lbs. in the back and idling). It runs fine though, and I'm planning on cleaning the MAF and maybe seafoaming it to see if it somehow improves the mpg. Anybody have any ideas what the problem may be?
What year and how many miles? Is it a 5 spd? I know if I drive mine hard it sucks gas big time. But mine has just over 100K on it, all fluids have been changed within a year, plugs, new wires, and filters, also all within a year. Oh and I sea-foamed it last month. Usually if you drive half way normal you can usually touch 20's.
Oh and on a side note, I really beleive a good exhaust set-up, some sort of cold-air intake, and lowering the car have a hand in making mpg better (at least freeway speeds). I used to have a 94 V6 that was almost the same set up as my 01, lowered, 17's, dual exhaust and an intake, and I also knocked 30 mpg more than once with it.
Oh I also only way 160 lbs.

It's a 1998 V6 4-speed automatic, and it's got just over 72,000 miles on it. The last oil change was @ 71,000, and it has no problems running. Alternator needs to be changed soon but I don't think that would affect mileage too much.
I've got a CAI that was put in before I bought it, but I have no idea what brand it is. I believe it is this one Mustang V6 Cold Air Intake Kit (94-98 V6), but I don't know if the filter should be cleaned (don't know how to do that). Btw would I possibly be able to attach a K&N filter on it (would it increase efficiency)? I would probably need to get a tuner to get more out of the CAI, I have no idea if it was previously tuned.
Anyways I usually drive it hard only once in awhile, maybe every 35 miles or so. I try to drive conservatively because this 'stang is so hard on gas.

I heard my grandpa say if it has an EGR valve thats clogged up you will lose serious gas mileage

Putting a K&N filter wouldn't make any differance. The filter you have on there is identical to the K&N, at's just a diiferent color and shape, besiclly the same. The filters should be cleaned every 10,000 miles or so, more often if you drive in dusty conditions. Go to any autoparts store that sells K&N filters and get the filter cleaning kit. Like this for red filters:
Both kits will work the same, you only have to go with the right color if you care what color it turns out. If you filter is visible in the engine compartment you might want the right colored one, for CAI's like my BBK which have the filter in the wheel well out of site, it won't matter as much. I share a filter cleaning kit with a friend who has a K&N, so my filter was originally blue, and is now purple. It works the same, and since you can't see it, I don't care.

By the way, I forgot to mention. I broke my foot a week & 1/2 ago and wasn't able to drive for a week. My Mom drove my car during that time. She drove city driving only, driving like the Grandma she is, when I filled up she got 23 mpg city. That's a lot better than I usually get, Can't keep my foot out of it.
