well, you do have a 96 Mustang which only has 150hp and 215TQ. With a dual exhaust and CAI, you are probably pushing 168 at the most. He still beats you with a stock grand ams. if he has any mods at all, he will def. beat you every time. a mod i suggest to get to see a much larger increase in hp is to upgrade your intake manifold to a split port. the 99+ V6 mustangs come standard with this and pushes 195hp at stock. I should know, i have a 2000

my 98 is 1300lbs... and yeah i think that they are heaver then the 99 and up's. im looking at the split port too any one with one know what it ran cost wise. ????
Ok well it wasnt a Grand am... it was a Grand prix... I was looking at its specs, and I have a crap load of torque compared to him... should this mean I should have accelerated alot fast? I also just replaced a bad oxygen sensor, which I raced him with... would that have slowed me down any?
He still should have beaten you regardless. The newer Grand Prix's have at least 200hp and close to 220trq. This makes them quite a bit quicker than our single port's. Do the split-port swap and that should even it up quite a bit.
You need hp and torque to accelerate quickly, not just one or the other. If you have a lot of one and not a lot of the other then you will accelerate quickly up to a point and then you will be lacking because of the non-existence of either the hp or torque.
The single-port 94-98 is lighter than the 99-04 split-port by 50-100lbs. depending on options.
