So this is how they do it around here. You drive whatever speed and they either pass you or you come up on them from behind. They slow way down and so, of course you try to pass. That is the start as they mat the gas, grab a gear and try to race you. You settle back in behind and they slow down again. Sometimes they go as slow as 30 in a 55 and you have the choice of racing or following until they get bored or you turn. This has happened three times to me by two different cars in the last week.
I just bought my '
Stang, and had forgotten about this crap. It has been over 2 years since I got rid of a modded 4.2 v6 with all the trimmings suspension wise. In my youth, I would have loved to, but now wisdom. But the loud exhaust the last owner put on this car and the stripes (I still don't know if I like 'em or not) seem to urge these jerks on. Always some young kid (as I type I wonder if there may be some thread out there about a kid in a '93 whipping by as if there was no limit) who thinks I'm in a GT or something. I never had this problem in the station wagon for some reason.
So if this is going to keep on happening, I have to think of a new strategy or I'm going to end up giving in- not to race, but to get where I want to go. I may have been baited in my youth, but I never pulled this on anyone else. I just drove fast and stupid, and paid for it in so many ways till I learned better. Does this happen elsewhere? What do you all do about it? If I turn them in, nothing would get done, and if I pass successfully, the chase is on not to go through it all again. And I thought this was fun once? God, I was stupid.
