i've been thinking of swaping out my 2.3 for a 3.8 s/c from a parts supercoupe. any pros or cons i should know about? i was gonna turbo it but the guy backed out on the deal and i have a oppertunity to buy a s/c. i've done a 5.0 conversion once and i can't afford the fuel in a 5.0, so i'm gonna try this.
well i figure i can get the whole supercoupe real cheap, and i'd use the mounts from a 86 v6 mustang, and i'm very experienced rewiring ford ecm harnesses, i'm just wondering if anyone has ran into problems with things not fitting where they should, like the intercooler or hight restrictions having the hood close overtop the supercharger. stuff like that. the only thing i may have to dish out for is a big fuel pump. also i was spending $30 a day to get to work in the 5.0, i'm hoping to deminish that by half. the 2.3 costs me about $10. so if the 3.8 is close i'd be happy. i feel the 2.3 just doesn't have the power to pull that car around.
Oh come on, you're not satisfied with 88 horsepower?

The T-bird has less underhood clearance than a Mustang.
You shouldn't have any problems.

no, just use 3.8L engine mounts. So long as the K-member is the same. If it's not just use a QA1 from a modern car for the improved geometry & lighter weight.
Or MM/griggs, etc., if you want to go all the way.

We may swap the drivetrain (engine - trans) from 1990 Super Coupe into an 80's Fox body. It's my oldest Son's first car, a 1981 Granafa GLX. The donor car is well worn, complete and running. It's a 35th "Anni" with an automatic (1 of 3,371) . My 92' Super Coupe is a five speed (1 of 1,256)
Swap in the 3.8..........with the Eaton M-90 it will be a blast to drive.
Should definitely be a fun car to drive. I would love to do a split-port swap with a supercharger into a fox body. I think it would be an incredibly fun car to drive power and handling wise.
I would highly suggest a 2.3L turbocoupe motor out of an 88. Do a search , much easier and cheaper swap and with minor mods , you would kill a supercoupe. Ask the guys on the 2.3L forums...

Where were we talking about racing an SVO 2.3L against a Supercoupe 3.8L? We were talking about a little custom project, not racing two completely different cars. The Supercoupe engine in a foxbody LX would give the SVO more than a run for its money. 220hp and 330trq in a foxbody? lol Smoke show until you could control the low end trq.
Of course it would be easier to swap a 2.3L to a 2.3L turbo engine... He was asking about the 3.8L though since he already has access to it and the SVO engines seem to be in abundance everywhere that I look...
I also am interested in this question. I presently have a 93 vert. Bought it cheap but rust free. Converting looks to 86. I am looking into doing the supercoupe motor. I have the 2.3 turbo and enjoy but don't want a second one. And when MGB project is done would be 3. Surely someone has done it. But I have yet to find one on the net. Link to pictures.
