Default Towing Question

Hello, im new to these forums. Im not a huge car person, although soon to be. I had a question about towing with a 95 v6 automatic mustang. I recently purchased a aluminum 16' boat and im looking to tow it with my car. I know the stang is rated at 1000lbs towing capacity. The boat weighs roughly 600lbs dry without the motor. The motor is a 9.9 johnson most likely 50-100 more lbs from that. The trailer has no electric breaks so its basically all the car.

Would it be ok to tow this boat and launch with my mustang? The tow is probably about a 30-45 minute ride. Anyone tried launching with a mustang before?
I have heard that it could burn the transmission up.

Any info would be great, thanks.

I wouldn't recommend towing with a Mustang, but it can be done. I have seen people tow jet skis with a subcompact hatchback Honda. If they could do it, so could you. But it might cause some clearance issues with the tow hitch.

You shouldn't have a problem with it. I've towed a new three seater Sea-doo that weighs pretty close to that and I've had no problems. You won't go very fast but you will get there.

Welcome to the site, enjoy!!!! It will probably be fine to tow with it.But i would reccomend that you service the trans. more frequently if you do alot of towing.

Thanks for all the responses. I feel a little better now. Installing the hitch today and going to give it a test run.

Good luck with that! To be able to be to be safe towing with a pre-99 V6, you are going to have to start stopping FAR away. Those brakes are barely good enough to stop its self let alone a 16' boat. I want to know where you got a tow rating...because I dont remember seeing one on the brochure....anywhere. =/
