It really depends on where it's at. Some of the bumper/spot repair can do smaller areas if there is a line/angle in the area so they can mask from there and blend it. If its on an large open area, they would probably do the whole panel. If your going through insurance, it would have to be returned to pre-accident condition!

Default Quarter panel

Let me guess, its a quarter panel repair?

Best approach is to bring some of those "car ppl family" members with you when you go to pickup the car from the shop. If the paint doesn't match, refuse delivery and notify the insurance company of the problem.

If its a panel repair (bumper cover, fender, door, etc.) get them to paint the whole panel. They should do this for an insurance repair after a collision.

Quarter panels or roofs are the exception.

I would not take it either. It should leave like there was never no damage to it. Good luck on your endeavor.

If the shop is worth it's salt, it should blend well enough. I have a forest metallic green, and the guy I had do the work (which is extremely similar in damage) blended along the A pillar, hood and door. Metallic paints can be the worst to blend, and I was happy with the results. Definitely check the job in the sun, and be sure they do a quality job. Look for low / high spots they might not have corrected, look for the blend job and make darn sure you check it out in GOOD light. Don't check it at dusk or early in the AM, especially before you're 3rd cup of cofee. (4 cups is normal... right?? ...Told them I wasn't a morning person...). Ask to see it in the shop or the paint booth before you take it if you know the light will be bad outside.
