Question Is This True About Gears

Is it true that if you get gears for your Mustang that it kills your top end speed?

If you go with a size that will give you better performance from the stop, yes, it will lower your top end speed. You have to determine what you want more from your Mustang; faster hole shots, or better highway speed and fuel efficiency.

A lot of city drivers prefer the smaller gears since most of their driving is from stoplight to stoplight and let's face it, our V6's can be real slugs out of the hole. But once opened up on the highway they move right along (or heck, once they get to about 30 LOL).

Gears help your lower end and does limit your top end speed. Usually affects your tach by 100-150 rpms.

Unless you get to really steep gears, like 4:10's or so it's not going to hurt it TOO bad. It will change but hopefully you won't be testing them out at 130 mph on the highway....

Even with 3.73's you will not be able to top them out in stock form. It would take some power to be able to top your car out with 3.73's.
