We have a 2001 Mustang V-6 it is not the one in the picture. It blows the A/C through the defrost. The door that directs the air to either the defrost or out through the front of the dash, was four to be in the closed position. We took the car to the Ford Dealer, they said the vacuum control valve needed to be replaced and estimated $800.00 for the repair. They also said the entire dash needed to be removed to get to it. My question to you guys that know about this is simple. Do you actually have to remove the entire dash or can you replace this by removing the center dash panels? I have a Haynes shop manual, which doesn't show very good examples of how to remove dash--- however for $800.00 I am going to learn. The part by the way is $8.50. I would appreciate any help with this matter that you might be able to provide. I am a rookie to this site, but I am a Mustang guy and a gearhead. so I am sure I am capable of making this repair especially since I already paid $100 bucks for the diagnastics from my Ford Dealer. We are relatively sure this is the part we need to change out. I can see it through the center dash access, and it appears we could change it, but I would like some confirmation, since Ford Dealer said the entire dash needed to come out. Please any help.
