Default 3.8 vs 5.0

So my friend has a 1992 4.9L 225 hp V8 hatchback 4spd auto

He bought it for about 600 bucks from an auction in decent shape.
we put in a new water pump,starter and rebuilt the tranny. he has new front tires and fat tires in the back. His engine is in pretty good condition his a/c doesnt work and his engine gets hot is he runs it really hard for a while.

I have a 2003 V6 3.8l conv. Auto.

I have a Mac Cai, Mac Catback, and Custom DS Tune.
My car always runs good and is on a 91 Octane tune.
on a 1/4 to 1/2 mile run what would the outcome look like?

what about after gears and a new driveshaft?

he'd stuff you in the low-end power. You should not be looking at just horsepower or even horsepower at all, torque is where you're being dominated. 300 ft-lbs of tq > 210 ft-lbs of tq

I heard it runs 15-14.8 and i think thats with a 5spd.

not to mention its 16 years old and was sitting for 4 years.


ive seen track times from people with gears,cai,exhaust,driveshaft and a good tune get 15.5-15.2

plus im looking into t-LOK, splitport spacer, udp's, windstar intake, b&m shift kit then possibly cams.

i dont know where to go after that i dont want to P&P or go stroker so i think im stuck???

It still has almost 100trq. more than you... It will beat you in the low end and then it will probably even out in the upper rpm's but he will be ahead of you when it evens out. This is assuming that the motor is in good running condition and not running off of 3 cylinders. lol

i say it will take you to town as well, the TQ is just so much more,

now if the engine runs like a turd(i.e., 4 of the 8 cyclinders goign) u may have a chance, but the 5.0 will win

I have a Tuned and Modded v6. I have beatin 3 5.0's an 87, 89, 92 and Lost to some as well. the ones I beat were all Stock or had Minor work. The ones I lost to well You already know they were Bad Ass 5.0s.
Depends on the driver as well. If you can Shift fast your good against a stock 5.0 the older cars werent the best stock.
But the TQ is true on the 5.0's they'll get you if you dont Mod your v6.

Most 5.0's are getting older, and have not been rebuilt. So they are slower than they used to be. Even then, they were only 15 second cars at the track......

VERY TRUE....Gets right to the point.
A lot of 5.0's are not great now days....Maybe in there Prime yes but the years have passed and tech has gotten better.
Like I said if I can do it Im sure you can....But I have different Mods and Custom Mods then your Stang has.
Though I did see a 1999 v6 5 speed with CAI as a mod beat an 87 5.0 so it depends.
