Default 1980 Mustang Inline 6

Hey there, I have no clue if this is where I should be posting but anyhow, I just bought a 1980 Mustang with an inline 6(3.3L or 200ci which ever you prefer) and I was wondering if any of you knew any performance upgrade that would make my little I6 have just a little more power when you need it. I'll post some pictures in a bit

OK, been a while since I saw one of those!

First: WELCOME HOME to AFM!

In case you get see this first, I posted up a contact for the parts you are looking for: RockAuto Parts Catalog

The 6 is not known as a great performer compared to the V8's or the turbos, but they have some clear advantages, imo.

My suggestion would be to focus on getting all the maintenance up to date, and to plan on making it brake, handle and look top notch.

Brakes would be a good place to start.

I suggest you look around the Mustang II forums, too, for ideas - lots of I6's in those cars, and the potential upgrades share some common ground.

You've got a car that literally "falls in the crack" between the IIs and the more modern V6 cars.

Here's a great book on the subject of upgrading your Falcon 6:

Here's a source for performance parts: http://www.classicinlines.com/

I found this 213hp result with a 2bbl carb to be impressive:

i would say my usual recipe for a 3.8V6, but urs is different, but i would suggest a dual exhaust system, but even then, i dunno how that works

Check out some of the old school links I posted for him - you might be surprised what an old inline can do!

I've seen a lot worse, and the square eyed Mustangs are coming back as a stylistic favorite (I had an 88, but despite that, I like the square eyes' look better than the later foxes).

Looks like some real work to do on that rear end - take it to a good body shop and have the unibody checked for straightness, and make sure the rear end is square under there.

Once the body and rear suspension are straight, adding the repair parts is much easier.

Don't apologize for driving a car undergoing repairs - most of us have done this, and that's where the wise, old Mustang owners LEARNED a lot of the stuff they share on AFM.

I discussed the I6 case with some of the others, and we determined that you can get a lot of know-how over in the Classic section (lots of 200 ci 6's over there), and you can find a lot about the rest of the car in the V6 section or even the 5.0 (many people go through the body restoration, accessory and drivetrain there, which are quite similar to yours, though of course the engine is different).

I've been seeing the square eyes go up in value and interest recently - GT's with oe T-tops are going up in price every year right now.
