It's just a pattern that I've noticed over the years that mustang owners do not like being beat. V6, V8, stock or modded, whatever your flavor, it seems to me that mustang owners can not own up to the fact that there are MANY other cars out there that are faster, stock or modded, than mustangs are.
It's ok that a Civic beat your mustang.
It's ok that a Scion, Lancer, Accord, Neon, Cavalier, Cobalt or anything else with 4 wheels beats your mustang.
Its OK!
Just enjoy your ride, race responsibly (incognito for LEGALLY), and work harder to take it up a notch!

I think many people forget how slow a stock V6 Mustang is. Unfortunately, even with your basic bolt ons, it's still slow, usually just louder, like mine.

It's okay that (various other cars) beat your Mustang.
I notice that you never said "it's okay that other cars beat my Mustang" (meaning your own). Sure, it's okay with you if other cars beat our Mustangs.
I have never raced at a track and haven't raced on the street in decades. Things were a whole lot different when we used to street race. We would arrange the race in a local burger joint parking lot, then head out for a section of road we knew to have guardrails preventing access for a couple of miles (so no other cars could enter the roadway ahead of us). We would head one way looking to see if any police were parked along the road and if none were seen, then we'd turn around at the next opportunity and slow way down to race from a roll on the way back.
We don't do any of that anymore because: A) the penalties for being caught drag racing are severe now, B) decades of housing construction and urban development have eliminated almost all of the clear roads we used back then, C) these days there are always several cars on the roads even late at night, and D) nobody hangs out at burger joints looking to race any more. Most of the guys that had great musclcars back then turned to SUVs when they got married and had children (I chose not to have any kids).
I am still friends with a couple of the guys from back then (including Mark with the AC Cobra roadster kit car in my photo gallery) who could attest that I only lost one race in my '69 Chevelle SS396 over those years (and that loss was strictly due to driver error). I only raced those who challenged me - I never challenged anyone else.

Unfortunately, my mustang passed away a few months ago
Thanks for the bringing up bad memories lol j/k
I used to care when i was younger and I just got my car. But I was young and stupid and cared too much about going faster than the person in the next lane. But I grew up and matured. I instead modded it for the fun of it. I never tracked it so i guess I'll never know how i would stand up to other street cars....but I never cared either.
It's just that there are too many threads that are like "XXX vs Mustang, who would win?" These aren't serious racers that take their car to the track. They're kids that have a mustang and think they're so fast. I just wanted to tell people that they should enjoy their car and that it didn't matter if you were faster than the Civic, or the camaro or the firebird, but that you enjoyed your drive.

Thank You!!! I do not think that most V6 owners realize how slow our cars are, even with full bolt-ons. It takes a lot for the 3.8L to be quick in anyway. Of course quickness and fastness is relative to the person but no matter how you look at it 220hp with bolt-ons is not fast...
yea i def. agree with all of you..at first when i got my stang i thought it was fast but then i woke up and just figured ill wait to get a GT to be fast lol....doesn't matter anyway a lot of ppl say that they like my car even if its some random person who's driving next to me, don't really care for speed im just glad i own a stang
The first post could have been written about ANY type of car, replace "Mustang" with any other name.
How about this? I have owned many different types of cars, but one thing I find to be true for them all is that there is a difference between a fast car and someone who can drive a car fast. And I don't mean putting your foot into it on a straight highway, I mean DRIVE a car.
Something to think about..... carry on.

I may have to disagree with you on this one. I'm also in a lancer forum (my current car) and most, if not all, members and posts don't really brag about beating this car or that car or get disappointed by being beat by this car or that car. I just see too many of those types of threads on this site and I think to myself "it's not really that important" and i actually get upset when people talk about street racing.
It's kind of funny because when i finally SCed my car, i actually drove it MUCH less aggressively than before....maybe it was my age or maybe I was afraid of getting a ticket but my driving habits changed dramatically after the SC.
anyways thanks for all your thoughts. Hopefully some of those reading this thread will come to truely appreciate their car, whatever it is, for what it's worth (awwww....)

Point taken... maybe not "any" car, but darn near most of them.
But I agree about importance (or lack of). It is why I own a V6 Mustang and not a V8 modded out to the max. And you will see me on the front line against all street racing (unsanctioned and blocked off legally).

Well I'll be honest, I used to have a kind of "king of the road" complex for a while since I owned my GT. It took me a few times to get humbled to realize that I am certainly not one of the fastest cars out there and there is a lot of work to be done to get there whcih I'm slowly in the process of doing. But by being humbled like I had been a few times, I'm doing it for personal reasons and not to think I'm the fastest on the road and I can smoke everyone. I was surprised to see that some "Ricers" have some pretty fast cars, and I have learned to respect that. Its just the posers I can't stand. Interesting thread title because its true, we do have a lot of pride, its just when it kinda overflows into an ego when we get ourselves humbled and embarassed lol. I been there.

I'm the same way. I have never raced my car and dont plan to but I still have big plans for modding it. Maybe some day ill take it to a track just to see what its like but that doesnt matter. I dont care if so and so can beat me with whatever car they have. I own MY car and I enjoy MY car. I always thought I was a Chevy guy until it came time to get a car. The Mustangs just seemed like a better choice.
I totally understand what you're saying. It's like seeing a neon in the next lane with a hugeazz muffler, some crazy robotic looking wing and more vinyl than you can shake a stick at and wanting to put them in their place. I've been there too...but that way I look at it is this: When I drove my car, I felt confident that people were turning their heads because they heard the SC whizzing along or there was a nicely made up car that "demanded" attention. However, to the neon, I'm confident that when that car drives down the road, people look at it to point and laugh and say "WTF is that guy thinking? does he really think his car looks good?" (I've said that to my friends one too many times lol)
They can fart their way down the street as fast as they want and they can brag to their friends "Hey I totally smoked a mustang, they always think they're the sh!t" but in the end, i'll never ever meet that person or their friends, and they'll never know that I wasn't even racing them...so in the end, getting heated up over someone like that is once again just too much of a risk both safety-wise and Po-Po-wise.
Once in a while I'll visit my family back in the Fox Valley area in WI. There aren't any huge colleges in that area, mostly high schools. you can see where i'm going with this....it's usually the kids that do this kind of stuff and it bothered me. But I've gotten over it, gotten used to it and just let them be. Afterall, it's not where I live and it's with people I don't know.
