Default Technician Training Program?

Is there a training program available for the Mustang only?

I'm an automotive student here in Pasadena, and I was just wondering if there is a training school out there for the Mustang.

Not to my knowledge.

If anything, Ford offers new model training when there is a model change. Otherwise their training is generic; ABS, engine type, etc.

Is there something particular you are wanting to learn? If you have the basics down, read the Mustang rags (with a grain of salt). They'll give you a lot of insight to the Mustang only issues.

The only thing I want is to be very knowledgeable of The Mustang '64 1/2 - Present...

Ford doesn't offer technical training programs for the Mustang?

I mean, I'm quite knowledgeable of the automobile, I just want to work on Mustangs only for a career.

No Tech classes just for Ford. Mostly all engines are basically the same.......

Learning the Mustang takes time and learning from someone that has done it. An apprenticeship program would work for you. Find a local speed shop and start learning......

Let me see if I understand you...You want to learn 45 years worth of info on one particular model of car?

Can I give you some advice as a long standing ASE Master Tech and someone who has been working on 1965 and up Mustangs since 1982? My first car was a 65 Fastback I bought at age 14, and it grew from there.

Do not pigeon hole yourself with one car model. Limited crowd, and prodominently do it yourselfers.

And the amount you need to know? Holy crap! Just the S197 alone can give you overload. It is OK to be passionate about the car model, and focus on it, but cars are cars. Don't be shy about working on older Camaros and Mopars.

My advice is not meant to discourage you or hurt your feelings. But to help you not get caught going hungry one day. Just be able to work on all models if needed, but learn the most on the Mustang if that's where you ambition lies.

I understand the both of you, Tom and Beagle...

I'm not shy about working on any type of vehicle...I was just curious if there was a technician program for the Mustang. I mean, after YEARS and YEARS of automotive experience, I'd like to work with the Mustang either as an engineer, designer, or even a road test dummy after my achievements...Like a "retirement plan" sort of speak.

I'm curious to know what these other cars are all about, don't get me wrong. Speaking of ASE, I'm going to take my ASE for Steering & Suspension and Brake Systems next Thursday!!!

Start checking with all the shops in Cali that do Mustang work. Maybe you can land something there?

That's how Jack Roush got started. I personally know the guy that gave him his first job playing with race cars in the 60's. He was green and wanted to learn. Look at him now.

Only we can make our dreams reality...I will never tell anyone they "can't" do what they want. Just advise them to have a back up plan.

Seems you thought it out well. Good Luck to you.
