Default last minute advise on exhaust

Hi all,
its been a while since i posted but i have a few last minute questions on exhaust before i take my car tomorrow. I have an '00 v6 and then only mod is CAI. I am going to get my exhaust changed to a dual. The main reason being the current one is rusted out and i figure i may as well ugrade while i'm at it. I'm not necessarily looking for a lot of power gain but i'm definately not in to lose any either. I know i want to go with flowmaster 40's. I was reading something about back pressure and without in power adders i think i need to stick maybe 2.25 pipes correct? I'm not real great with this stuff so if someone could point me in the right direction on what exactly i need in order to not lose power or hurt the car. Such as mandrel bent .. what is that? ANY and ALL help is greatly appreciated!!

Yea 2.25 is what I have. Mandrel bending makes sure that there aren't any kinks when the exhaust piping is bent so that the exhaust flows better. If you want it to sound deeper, get larger tailpipes. I think mine are 3.5"

Thanks man, just wanted to make sure before she hits the shop tomorrow. And I'm going to go with the 3.5 tips like you have. Your car looks beautiful and that exhaust adds so much to it. Thanks again.

btw .. just got new tires and it feels unbelievable, i'm ready to go drive right now.

so ....... I go to get an estimate this morning and the guy wants to cut at the y pipe and run another pipe straight back with no mid - pipe. Claims the rusted out other side is fine but one cat needs to be replaced. He quoted me almost 500 for that and I would be supplying mufflers. Needless to say I left. Talked to another guy i'm going to see today who said he can replace both cats and fab an h-pipe. He seems to think this would be about 500. Sounds like a little better deal when he is going to double what the first guy said. Anything to watch for or certain cats I should look to get? I'm pretty set on my muffler's as the flowmaster 40's.

... btw the first guy wanted to keep the stock muffler and just add another .. i laughed really hard inside as I said NO

That sounds pricey but if a cat needs to be replaced then maybe. A few years ago, my system cost around $415 or so. It has all new pipe attached/right after the last cats. Then, an h pipe, flowmasters, tailpipes. Why do you need a new cat anyways? Is one banged up or rusted out?? I would go to as many shops as you can. If you need a pic of what mine looks like, I should be able to snap a pic!

$500 does sound expensive. I can get mine done for $300 which is the true dual exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers, but I do know the guy who is doing it for me.

Things finally worked out. I talked to several shops this morning and finally found somebody who sounded like they were reasonable and actually new what i wanted. I took my car and they got it on the lift. I thought one of my cats was rattling but it was actually a loose clamp that had rusted. The guy turned out to be someone i previously new and trusted. He did the job in three hours. My system sounds to be very similar to yours guitar. Cut off right after the last cats and had a H-pipe fabricated where it then runs back into the new mufflers. He also put on a good set of tips for me. Sounds great .. deep and not annoying loud. Nice rumble and a surge when i stomp on the gas. Thanks for the help! It's dark out now but I'll get some pictures up tomorrow!
