Make sure if you want a faster stock GT, get a 96 - 98. The 5.0 only had 210HP, which isn't much better than a New Edge V6. I had a 95 GT 5.0, they do respond well to mods, but they aren't as fast as you would think stock. A lightly modded New Edge V6 will beat a stock 5.0. I believe the 4.6 has 260HP. (GT guys chime in and confirm this please) The 4.6 came in the 96 & up GTs. Even the new GT's have the 4.6 but they have 300HP. Do your homework and go in informed, you will get a much better deal that way.

I am hoping to get very informed before I buy. I have made up my mind not to buy until spring at least. I do not need a convertable mustang to deal with in the MN winter. A v8 with a five speed sounds to be a very fun car. Is there any difference if I got the auto. I do want an auto if it is going to be something that has issues. I seem to find more autos than anything on auto trader and car soup. I am willing to drive up to 500 miles away to pick up something decent. I will however not settle for a hard top. I have had a convertable lebaron before when I was 16 I am 19 now btw. Nothing beats that feeling of riding with the top down.

I guess you need to go with what you want out of the car in the long run. If you're looking for something to get in and drive, then the GT would be ideal. If you want something that you tinker around with and beat GT's, then get a V6. (Which really ticks them off at the track.) Insurance is cheaper too......

Hmmm. Ignore the guy that posted before you last. He doesn't seem to know what he is talking about.

You can ask any 94-98 GT owner and the 5.0 is faster. The 5.0 had better low end torque which helped to get it moving faster. The 96-98 4.6L is weak. 260hp? The 260hp did not come until the 99-04 GT's. The 96-98 GT had 220-225hp with less low end torque than the 5.0L. The 5.0L in the 94-95 isn't a bad engine and it responds much better to mods than the 2v PI or NPI engines do. With all of that said I would still go for the 4.6L though. lol I don't know why people always seem to go by the hp number, they never seem to look at the torque rating of the engine and realize that is what gets the car moving.

Also, The last time I checked insurance prices of a 5.0L SN95 it was cheaper than a V6 new edge. That is why two of my friends now own 95 GT's instead of New Edge V6's. I am not sure how your driving record is but that will certainly play a factor in the price of insurance.

No tickets no accidents so I am good on the driving record. I think I am going to look for a v8 with a 5 speed. I doubt the insurance will have much of a difference.

you will be surprised when you get a quote...
GT's have a much higher cost in insurance.
