I am looking at buying a Mustang I am interested in a v6 with a 5 speed. I have heard the v6 does good on gas and isn't to bad to insure. Are the v6s a real dog though? I am still looking but this the combination I am currently seeking unless you guys change my mind. Is there anything I should know about the v6 mustang or the 94-99 mustang at all? I am looking at this for a daily driver. I would also like to be able to have a little fun in it as well. I would also be wanting to put some subs in it. I already have two kicker l7 12s that would make their way into this car. I am looking at 4-4.5g as my spending limit is this reasonable?

U could get one for that. If you want a faster car go for a New Edge (99-04) You can still get a good New Edge in your pricerange and they have 30 more HP staock.

A New Edge would be years 99-04. The v6 comes with 190 HP at the crank, instead of the 160 (right?) the 94-98 came with. Plus it would be a little newer and have some more up-to-date components. A convertible would raise the price a little, but you can still find a good one in your price range. Good luck searching, come back for any questions!

How does the v6 do on gas? I am not looking for a lot of power but I want something that isn't going to be a slouch and be getting passed all the time. I think the manual tranny should help with this. Also are there any problem areas i should know about.
I have 2000 v6 with an automatic. My car is pretty good on gas. If your looking at getting a manual, if driven right, you could get a little better gas mileage. Main thing on gas i find is just how you drive it. Keep your foot out it for the most part and you'll be pleased. As far as getting passed .. you'll have plenty of power to avoid that unless you go out picking fights you obviously can't win. Not a v8 but good performance .. plus .. you can fix her up and there's a lot to do to these 3.8's. Have fun and keep us updated!
there is either a 94-98 Model (Sn-95) or 99-04 Model (New Edge). The 94-98 has 145 hp to the crack. It has a single port intake manifold and this is a large reason why its so slow. 99-04 has 193 hp because of its split port intake manifold. Get one for 99-04. You can find one in your price range. Look for a silver one and join silvermustangs.com. Good luck.

But when it comes craving for more speed, you have to get creative and save money. Remember...you can buy a GT that's already built fast, but it takes a lot of unique enginuity to make a V6 really m o v e.
Anyway...with $6000, you can get yourself a nice 99-04 V6 with standard transmission. I prefer white, but I don't like Ford's OXFORD WHITE - - -looks "beigey"...Have fun picking out your car man, you'll love you Mustang just like how all of us do.

I have two kicker l7 12s in a qlogic box. Would I have trouble fitting them in a convertable? I had a lebaron vert when I was 16 and I know it might be a good comparsion but its all I got. That thing had no room at all for those things.
It seem a v8 is easier to find as well in the vert anyway. I am not opposed to it but how is the gas mileage going to be? I am looking for something that is going to be good on gas or atleast better than my 5.7 vortec in my gmc 1500. Am I more likely to find one in the winter or summer? I live in MN and driving a mustang convertable is not something I would want to do in the winter. The 99-2004 look very nice. I am looking for a 500 mile one way trip anything further away and no thanks. Is there anything I should know about this car that is a common failure or anything of that nature. Thanks for all of the patient and answers. Mustang forums usual get a bad rep at other places but here it does not seem to hold true. Just curious how the does the v6 stack up against the 3800 supercharged of gms.
You could get a 94-98 GT for 6k that would get almost the exact same gas mileage as the V6 and could be cheaper than a 99-04 V6 on insurance.
I am a V6 guy but it sounds like you just want a nice car to cruise around in and not worry too much about power or image. A 94-98 GT is not a bad car, they are not fast by any means but they have a little bit of power to make them fun at times. I am partial to the 94-98 body style anyway, the 99-04 just doesn't do it for me, I might be the only one who thinks so though. lol
You could also look at a pre-modded V6, they are cheap and will already have a lot of work done on them.
You are correct its all about a car that is going to be fun to crusie around in. I am love the 94-99 body style that is why I even want a mustang. I am normally a chevy guy. It just seems a manual is hard to find. Why is this? I see plenty of coupes with them but not a vert? Do you think these cars will ever grow in value if one holds on to them for a while?
No they will probably not grow in value no matter how long you hold onto them. Unless you have a special edition that it. Look at the Saleen 351r or the Cobra R, they have sky rocketed in price. lol
You should be able to find them in a manual without too much difficulty. I found mine in manual without even looking for one. If you are looking for a V6 it may be a little harder, if you are looking at the GT then the manual option is easier to find. A vert. GT with manual should not be too hard to find. It might be a different story with the V6 vert. manual though.
The Ford 3.8L from 94-98 is a dog with 150hp, the 99-04 3.8L is barely better with 190hp. Neither one is fast. lol Compared to the SC GM 3800 series they don't stand up all that well. The problem with the GM 3800 series is that they stick the SC engine into boats. The good thing about the Ford 3.8L is that it can be made decently quick without too much fuss and it can be made fast as hell if you are willing to pay.
If it were me, I would go for the GT, I do not think that you would be satisfied with the V6. The V6 isn't a bad car. But if you are just looking to keep the car stock and have some fun with it then the GT will probably be the better bet.
