Question 2004 Airbag Replacement

My mustang is a 2004 V6. My mom wrecked the car and the airbags deployed. A neighbor installed the airbags, but did not hook them up because he was concerned they would redeploy without the computer being reset. Is this true? The wires for these airbags plugin like a phone cord and a phone jack. I have read that you need a clockspring and so forth.... what is that and do i need it? I paid a good deal of money for these new airbags and they can completely assembled with just the plug in to deal with. Can anyone help? What do I need to do?
Thanks!

If the computer is not reset then the airbags will NOT deploy again. This means that they will not deploy when you plug in the new ones and in the event of another crash, they still won't deploy.

Go out to your car, unhook the negative (black) battery cable from the battery, then mash the brake pedal 5 times (no more, no less) and let the car sit for 45 minutes, then unplug your MAF sensor and let that sit for 10 minutes. Now your ECU (engine computer) has been reset. Go ahead and plug in your new air bag, reconnect the MAF and battery. Start your car up and push the horn on your steering wheel. If your horn works, you don't need a new clockspring.

Wow, I didn't know that Dakine.....

Also, make sure your seatbelts work. The 99+'s had shells that would lock up the mechanism in case the bags were deployed.......
