Friend of mine lost her Mustang back in late March. She was travelling home from college on a Friday night, hit a patch of ice, spun across lanes and nailed a tree head on at 50 mph. The airbag did not go off and she wound up with a mild concussion and some soreness, but she walked away nonetheless....
Ouch. That's a nasty meeting with a tree. At least your friend is okay. The car can be replaced. People can't.

It's stories like this that would be the reason why if I lived anywhere north of Oklahoma I would drive a AWD subaru. Light car + rwd + ice = tree. I'm glad your friend is ok. Mustangs are tougher than people give them credit for.

I feel a HELLUVA lot safer in my 1999 GMC Jimmy AWD than ANY AWD car. My stang is garage bound until warmer weather.......
noob question....the pictures show the hood broken, because its fiberglass...but its a stock looking hood so are the factory stock hoods fiberglass, not metal? I will be inheriting as 2000 V6 from a relative thats getting a new car and have driven it a few times but I had not realized the hood could be fiberglass. or did the car in the photos actually have an aftermarket hood but still stock style?

From what ive heard its fiberglass. Could be wrong.
Anyway this is weird last week I hit a patch of black ice as well driving through ID and IL and spun a 180 across the median and onto the other road going the opposite direction lol. Right as I stopped a semi went flying by me. I was o.0 .... 0.o holy crap!
Funny thing (not haha funny but ironic funny) is that there was a tow truck and another poor guy that hit the black ice as well but ended up going off the right side of the road into a huge 10ft ditch just before the gaurd rail started. He was ok though I seen him standing by his car and the tow truck. I wouldnt have cared if I wrecked but I am just soooo glad I didnt hit those guys standing on the side of the road. Oh btw I didnt get so much as a scratch. Well other than some grass and snow on the right side of my stang.
FYI this is my first time driving in snow/ice and I had felt little patches of ice but not enough to cause any traction issues so I thought thats what black ice was, nothing worse. Thats when it happened lol. I was going about 50mph when I spun out. Im also lucky there was no other cars around. You better bet I was doing about 30-35 after that for a while till the sun came out and they salted the roads.
Last march i was out on the roads after a light snowfall in the morning, driving to drill. I was already a little behind so me and my friend were stupidly pushing the limit. All of a sudden after coming off of an on ramp the car started fishtailing wildly. I forgot in all the excitement to let off the gas to help it out. We did about a 600 degree spin with the rear end ending up in the ditch in the median. Being late to drill and not having time for a tow I floored it in reverse across the median, which was about 70 ft wide and snowcovered, and got on the opposite side. Just headed up to the next overpass, turned around and was thankfully on my way. I found out later that the spin was actually due to one of my front tires and not the road conditions. The outer edges of it were chunking away and causing it to vibrate at higher speeds.
I have heard a few stories on here about people crashing their stangs pretty good and I am happy to hear that most have had only minor injuries. I have faith that if that dreaded day does come my stang will keep me safe in a final act of love
