I have recently been bitten by the bug and want to build up my 2004 V6. It has about 87000 miles on it all stock. My problem is I don't know whether I should build up this car or purchase a newer low mileage V6. I know I won't be going into any kind of supercharger or Stage 3 as this car will still be a daily driver. Any suggestions on which route to go? And please don't suggest a GT. Looked at a few and just don't want the car payment.
If I keep the current vehicle it is about $1000 to start. Then a little at a time as money comes along. Wanting to do dual exhaust, cai, udp's, windstar upper intake, and then dress up pieces and body kit. If I buy a newer vehicle the budget will be whatever I can afford when the money comes in.
well cai and exhaust and a tune will run you about a thousand right there tunes are around 350 w/o the dyno unless you know someone... after you spend that grand which will give you 30 ish horsepower with the tune get gears and a t lock... have a mechanic do the gears... i know those are tricky and you have to replace the bearings because the old ones are worn to your old gears... and personally i want 4.10s because i could care less about mpg and they are sick off the line in 5th you go 70 at 2600 rps ish...
I have a 01 with 4.10 and love it and I really didn't notice to much of a difference like 1mpg at the most on the highway in the city you will notice a little better though. When I do about 30-35 the car is already in 4th gear.

I payed less than that for a dyno and I was just a regular old customer; and you can get a good exhaust for less than $650.

Honestly if you have that many miles on it and its stock you should look into getting a newer stang. The 05+ v6's start off with more power and they respond to mods better because they're modular.
If your budget was big enough for it you could keep your 04 and get a newer car for a DD and go crazy with the 04 because you wouldn't have to depwnd on it for a DD.

yea prices are different everywhere for me to get a dyno and a chip at modular powerhouse in cartersville georgia its like 325 350... something like that
Thanks for all the info. I have a local muffler shop doing a dual exhaust for $235 with Flowmaster 40's and then the cai from American Muscle. I was just concerned if the mileage on my current stang was too high to start modifying since it is a daily driver (approx 65 miles round trip). With the newer 05+ v6 stangs do you have to do a tune with a cai?
to get the most out of it you must tune it yes... it makes the car run a little rich... i have 130k miles and it still runs super strong ... i take care of my car and thats a super great price on the flows...
