Default GT Hood Scoop question

Could I mount the GT scoop on my factory V6 hood?

If the picture you have under your name is accurate yes. It has to be 2000? (i'd double check that) and older because after that they changed it to look like a heat reducing hood not a hood with a scoop. It'll just sit right on top of the hood for yours. However, I'm a little new to mustangs so I'd double check with someone with more experience, where's Shiner at?

Yes you can mount it on your hood. I have a 99, and I just bought the GT scoop off of ebay and mounted it. It looks great. Just make sure you get a good one that has the plastic grille made into it, make sure you line it up correctly on your hood, and mark the holes to drill for the bolts in the hood. Make sure the one you get is the bolt-on type, and not just some cheap stick-on type. Mine looks just like the GT hood, and basically all the GT hood is is a V6 hood with the GT scoop bolted on.

pretty sure only the 04 V6's have the cobra style hood, 99-03 V6 hoods are the same as the GT hoods minus the scoop. the 40th anniversary V6 mustangs have the V6/GT hood with the GT scoop. bottom line, yes you can mount one, as previously stated you'll have to drill your hood. Latemodel Restoration Supply has the kit for $180 bucks, theres other sites that have them as well.

Don't pay that much for one. Mine was $90 on ebay, including shipping, and it's a perfect replica of a GT scoop. You have to paint it of course, but it works perfectly. Just look on there and you'll see it, it comes as red only, and the plastic front grille is made onto it. Just line it up so the grille fits perfectly in the indentation on your hood, and you're set. Oh, and one tip I learned when I did mine.....drill the holes slightly oversized. At least 2 of the holes are at an angle (the ones that are drilled into the sides of the indentation in the hood), and it needs room to move when you tighten all the bolts down, or else you'll have gaps under the scoop.

I'm trying to decide which route to go with the color of the scoop. Should I get it to match or in flat black?

it might look pretty cool if you have other black/dark accents, such as striping, wheels, dark tint, headlights, etc etc etc. but IMHO it may look a little goofy if its the only black thing on the car.

i've been thinking about getting a scoop for my car too, i think they look cool. plus, only 99-00 stangs have my color paint, and mustangs didnt get hood scoops until 01, so no mustang my color ever had a scoop, V6, GT, whatever. unique factor?

I would go with the body color myself. That way it will look good no matter what else you may or may not do to it.
