Default 02 v6 mustang vs 06 v6 charger

okay guys i want yalls opinions!!

A 2002 v6 mustang has a 3.8L SOHC engine and it puts out about 190-195 horsepower and roughly 225-230 ft. lbs of torque and weighs about 3100 lbs

A 2006 v6 charger has a 3.5 SOHC engine and puts out 250 horses and about 250 ft. lbs of torque and weighs in at a massive 3850 (omg.... thats ridiculous)

with the mods i have on my car im estimating about 205-210 horsepower and im not sure how much torque... do you think i could beat the charger??

i personally think i can... but as the owner of my car i always think the best of it and am biased but the charger has me outranked pretty fairly in horsepower and torque... would the massive weight difference allow me to beat him you think??

According to your data:

Dodge Charger--
3850 lbs divided by 250 hp = 15.4 lbs per horse

Your Mustang--
3100 lbs divided by 210 hp = 14.8 lbs per horse

According to your data you are leading in poundage to horsepower, but I'm not sure how accurate your data is and also I don't think those are rwhp #'s which are the only ones that count... so... yes?

2002 V6 Mustang is not SOHC it is a regular OHV engine while the Dodge IS a SOHC engine so he will make better power at higher revs while the V6 Mustang runs out of breath around 5K RPM. Mustang's with an auto are slower than hell too not that the Dodge is gonna be a rocket. Somewhat of a driver's race, but the Dodge should win by atleast a few car lengths in the 1/4 if you ask me.

All those mods you list for your Mustang maybe add 5-10 RWHP on a really good day. If you had a proper tune it should be a solid 10-15HP gain. To make REAL HP with a V6 you need better heads/cam/intake and then upgrade the fuel system. Bolt on mods just don't add that much power. You gotta get inside that engine to make some real HP.

from my experience the chargers gonna have you by maybe no more than 2 cars.

you can go to any autozone, orielys etc and they have a 10 minutes tune up wich will only cost like 20 bucks and it will add a bit of hp to you i think olny like 5 but hey its worth it.

another mod that wont cost you a peny just a little of your time, take out yor passenger and rear seats you loose wait that way, and you can always put them back in.

bolt on dont give you much push for hp and yes you do have to get inside the engine for more power, thats what alot of v6 driver (not just mustans) dont do, like the smack talking kid at school or something.

iin mm&ff they did a tech story on the top 10 best priced mods all of which are under 500 and a few you can do yourself.
1.rear gears
2.short-throw shifter
3.zex nitrous-oxide injection kit
4. handheld tuners/computer chips
5.drag radials
6.10-minute tune up (what i was talking about earlier)
7.exhaust upgrade
8.cold-air intake
9.intake manifold upgrade
10.brake upgrades

all of those cost you under 500$, note i said Under, i didnt say all together they would cost 500$

if you want ill type up all of the detail they have in here.

gotta love mm&ff's detail

shorty headers = 0 hp. throttle body = 0 hp. exhaust and intake = 10-12 hp. So im going to say 205 bhp. Now since what's at the wheels counts, lets convert. Most shops figure in a 15% drivetrain loss, so 205 * .85 = 174.25. 250 * .85 = 212.5. Now the charger curb weight is more like 3750 and the mustang curb weight is more like 3115. So 3115 / 174.25 = 17.87 and 3750 / 212.5 = 17.64. If you had 210 hp your hp/weight would be 17.48, but thats not mentioning the charger has a better transmission.

I'd give my nod to the charger, but it would be a decent race.

I would have to say driver mod would take this. Get a good launch without spinning the tires and hope that its better than his/her launch. Race and let us know how it turns out.

If you had gears, t-lok, and a tuner then I'd say you would have it in the bag. Especially racing out of the hole.

.... out of the hole.... that is what I dislike the most with stock V6 Mustangs. I really love my car and have no issues with cars of various engine sizes. I think they can all be made to work well, but V6 Mustangs are pretty sluggish out of the hole.

Sometimes I feel as if I would be better giving myself a push from a dead stop.... sometimes not, but you know the deal.

Gears gears gears.....

techniclly gears and a t-lok arent huge mods, so techniclly putting them on a v6 wouldnt make it a race car. tell that to your father.

but i know how that feels my uncle isnt a cop but he is the mechanic that works on there cars. muhuhahahahaha.:bigthumbsu p
